eGamer’s Best Of E3 2012: The Most Painful Demonstration To Watch
This discussion with the team was fun for me, as a number of us were on voice chat the entire time we watched the E3 press conference, so it was entertaining to see what made us cringe and claw at our eyes in agony the most based on our reactions and screaming of profanities into our microphones.
Keep in mind that this award isn’t strictly related to games alone, as we’re giving our opinions on any of the demonstrations whether they were game demos, technology demos or even just the presentations by the speakers. We didn’t really leave anything out, or rather, anything safe from our wrath.
Here’s what the eGamer team had to say regarding the most painful things to watch.
For Dean it was easy:
The Move showcase at Sony’s keynote; Ubisoft’s lame presenters; and Dead Space 3 becoming the newest action sell-out.
Azhar was rather venomous:
Wonderbook for Move, or whatever it’s called, was terrifying. Fine, it’s pretty neat if you show it off for a bit and it’s cool to see Sony trying to appeal to a wider audience, but to go on for fifteen minutes with such a dry presentation, my God I’m surprised no one died of boredom or tried to rip their own eyes out. Also, Ubisoft’s presenters were lame and extremely annoying with their humour that no one found funny, and finally Dead Space 3 was embarrassingly bad, and had me face-palming and raging to no end.
Alessandro was another who detested Wonderbook:
Although I really do think it’s a fantastic idea for children, the stage demo for Sony’s Wonderbooks was utterly nauseating. I wished every second for it to end, only for it to continue for nearly 15 minutes. It was horrific.
Caveshen surprised us by actually expressing hate for something:
Dead Space 3 had me cringing left, right and centre with my hands in my head going: “What the fuck are Visceral doing…” It was bad. Extremely bad. Almost as bad as the Most Wanted gameplay trailer I saw. It’s as if they’ve completely lost the plot with the Dead Space franchise.
Abdul-Gaffoor shared the unanimous hate for Wonderbook, but had other things on his mind:
I’m gonna go with Wonderbooks and anything involving Spike TV given how hatefully annoying that presenter is when talking to devs. With regard to games, possibly Injustice: Gods Among Us. It just looks wrong somehow. Maybe that’s just me but as a fan of comics, it had me cringing.
Poor Adam had to watch Nintendo’s conference on his own, as none of us would go near it:
Wii Fit U, by far was the worst experience I’ve ever had to sit through. How I managed to sit through the whole Nintendo conference amazes much of the other writers. All I can say is, I don’t know how I did it.
A lot of us had similar opinions on this matter, especially with Sony’s Wonderbook and Dead Space 3. Honestly, what were Sony thinking? They had such an amazing conference for the most part, especially with games like Beyond: Two Souls, The Last Of Us, God of War: Ascension and a rather awesome gameplay piece from Assassin’s Creed 3, but they chose to waste fifteen minutes of their show on that child’s toy. At least they made up for it in the end with cool games.
