How Does Assassin’s Creed III Look On The Wii U? Better Than On The PS3

There’s been a ton of debate surrounding how powerful the Wii U will be when it finally release and how it will stack up to competition that is already 6 years old. In short, the Wii U looks like it’s outperforming the current-generation of consoles, but not by far.

Judging from these two gameplay demonstrations of Ubisoft’s highly anticipated title, Assassin’s Creed III, you can clearly see that the version running on a Wii U looks better than the footage of the PS3 version. Textures seem sharper, but the lighting is what really shines through. The environment looks a lot more “real” on the Wii U, but should this be surprising.

Let’s get real for a second; The Wii U hasn’t even been released yet and already we’re seeing only marginally better visuals. Sure, Nintendo hasn’t always been about the stunning graphics and rather chose to innovate in other areas, but is this really a good advert for their new console? That it can’t even make current titles far better looking than a 6 year old console?

Or maybe Ubisoft just haven’t given that much attention to the Wii U version of the game to make it standout? Nonetheless, you can check out footage from both consoles above and below, with Wii U footage on the top and PS3 footage below. Also, I just want to say again, that the Wii U footage looks better than the PS3 footage. That’s for you, Trebzz.

Impressive visuals from an unimpressive game. I’m more concerned with how crap the PS3 version looks as oppose to how good the Wii U version looks.

In terms of the Wii U, I’m more interested in what sort of graphical style they’re gonna go with for their exclusives like Super Mario and Zelda. Those games have never been about graphical excellence but rather vibrant visuals and fun gameplay & story.

The visuals are a bit crisper and sharper on Wii U but that’s Nintendo’s problem, hadrware-wise Wii U isn’t meant to compete with teh next gen of consoles, it’s on par with the current gen and that’s just how Nintendo is. They’re not even trying to be in competition with Sony and Microsoft because they already have their sector of the market marked out. Nintendo could easily dominate the sector if they used some good tech and had their whole motion control weirdness but alas they don’t seem to have realised that.

The lighting inferiority on the PS3 doesn’t have so much to do with the tech in the Wii-U but rather in the lack of tech in the PS3. Even when it was first released the PS3 had a somewhat outdated GPU with some rather archaic lighting and shader techniques.
