Meet The New Lara Croft

Following the continued efforts of Crystal Dynamics to de-sexualise the new Lara Croft in their rebooted Tomb Raider series, Square Enix has revealed the “performance actress” and voice of new-Lara; English Californication and True Blood actress Camilla Luddington.

Hmm… I don’t think Square Enix got that memo, actually.

According to the publisher Luddington stood out during the “international talent search” by delivering “both a depth of emotion and the youthful tone needed for Lara Croft” in the upcoming retelling of the Tomb Raider story.

Expect her first public appearances at the Nerd HQ and Comic-Con panels in San Diego, this July.

“This has been one of the most important jobs for us to get right,” said Darrell Gallagher, head of studio at Crystal Dynamics. “This Tomb Raider games is very different to any other and we are demanding far more from the voice and performance acting than ever before as we take the franchise in a new direction.”

If you follow Zero Punctuation, Yahtzee certainly hated the portrayal and voice acting of the Lara shown at E3 2012 demonstrations, whom in their attempts to de-sexualise, Crystal Dynamics ended up sexualising in a whole other way, ie. attempted rape scene.
