Microsoft Releases SmartGlass SDK
Partnered Xbox 360 developers may now access and download the SmartGlass Software Development Kit from its official site, allowing them to get working on building the software into future titles, after it was released by Microsoft late yesterday.
The SmartGlass technology was revealed during Microsoft’s E3 presentation, and will allow consumers to link their Xbox 360 consoles to their smartphones and tablet devices for a myriad tasks.
Demonstrations shown during the presentation included devising play strategies for NFL games using your tablet, or accessing Waypoint information and joining online games in Halo 4, or even accessing information related to something you’re watching, be it series or a movie.
The technology seems pretty legit and it certainly had me excited, but the jury remains firmly out, regarding whether or not it will be widely adopted and how easily it will connect up to your console once it’s released.
Microsoft Game Studios has come out and said that it will be supporting the software in all future titles, so expect it in such games as Halo 4, Gears of War: Judgement, Forza: Horizon and Fable: The Journey, at the very least.
