6 Badass Armours

6 Badass Armours

I’m an aesthetic guy. I like things that look pretty or have a measure of uniqueness about them. When I play RPG’s I look for armour sets that look fantastic, even going so far as equipping certain armour sets that are weaker than other sets I have in my inventory. If it looks good then I want it on my body, much like my preference in ladies. Armour sets are not just constricted to RPG’s and games with a more medieval focus, but can also look good in more modern games. Some of these armour sets can become iconic in their construct to the extent that a game gets instantly recognised if that armour is shown to them.

Let’s look at some of the armours that have become iconic in our gaming world:

6. Dead Space: Isaac Clark’s Engineering Suit
deadspace2

Not many games do the whole integrated HUD thing where all your necessary information is displayed on the character model itself and Dead Space pulled it off somehow. Isaac’s suit not only looks amazing with blue lights inside his helmet, but it also has his health status on the back of the suit. That’s something you don’t see in a lot of games in recent times. Not only is the health bar on the back, but also the amount of stasis you have left at your disposal.

Truly one of the more innovative armours that combined gameplay and pure style.

5. Gears of War: COG Armour

Gears of War’s character models have always had this uncanny similarity to that of a refrigerator combined with a meatloaf. But the thing that makes them look like trucks is the immensely massive COG uniforms. I always say that the chestplate looks like a Rock Band drumset. I seriously don’t know why I see that, but it’s unavoidable. It’s on this list purely because it’s an armour that every gamer recognises (See what I did there?) when they see it.

4. Crysis 2: Nanosuit
crysis-2

Never before in a game was the armour the actual gameplay mechanic itself. Whether your going Maximum Armour and tanking the shit out of bullets or going Maximum Stealth and being a sneaky bastard, all the gameplay elements are incorporated into the suit. If it wasn’t for the Nanosuit then Crysis would have just been a generic FPS that looks pretty. Nothing is more badass than sprinting into an enemy, picking him up by the throat and throwing that bastard off a cliff.

Iconic in every way of the word and an armour that makes you feel like a five star bona-fide badass. Maximum Awesome.

3. Skyrim: Daedric Armor
skyrim

Skyrim has a ton of armour sets for you to indulge your body in. From the sweet looking Ebony armour set to the absolutely epic Nightingale armour which would have been on this list if it didn’t include spoilers. The next big armour set that makes you look like a total badass has to be the Daedric armour. Some might argue that the Dragonbone armour looks better, but to me you just look like you went all Bear Grylls on a dragon and just superglued its bones on your body.

The Daedric armour has you looking like an demonic dragon of death with jet black plating and red accents filling the contours of your muscular body like some fire out of Hell. A metalhead’s dream and truly worthy of being dubbed one of the most badass armours in games.

2. Batman Arkham City: Batsuit
batman

We all know the batsuit. Whether you’re a flamboyant fanboy of Batman or just a fan of superheroes in general, this suit has reached iconic status in everyone’s hearts. Rocksteady went a step further in their design for the Batsuit by implementing damage into its design as the game progresses. You start off with a nice and clean Batsuit and as shit gets real intense you start noticing little things like  your cape is torn or your nipples are starting to show.

It’s realistic in its portrayal because how would you look if you wore the same outfit during countless fistfights and flying through the sky? Absolutely beautiful.

1. Fallout New Vegas: Ranger Armour
falloutnewvegas

My personal favourite armour of all time. A western themed overcoat with armour plating underneath it with a helmet that has red glowing eyes. Beauty in its most rawest form. Not to mention the female outfit showing all those curves in exquisite detail and forcing me to play in third-person at all times and walking slowly so I can just admire the hotness. The simplicity of this armour sets it apart from the rest of Fallout’s various armours such as the power armour that makes you look like a bus more than anything.

I played Fallout New Vegas three times in pursuit of all the achievements and every time I played I always ended up wearing it, no matter what faction I chose.

In Conclusion

There’s not much else I can say about armour other than it looks pretty and can be quite epic when it’s combined with actual gameplay or even being the gameplay itself. I only covered a few in thousands of different armour sets so I would like to hear from you: What is your favourite armour of all time?

Fallout New Vegas Ranger Armour FTW! :D

I preferred it over the T-45 Power Armour that was on F3′s cover, more because it was less accessible in-game, whereas the T-45 was everywhere in the Brotherhood.

Did you get the Honest Hearts DLC pack?

I don’t like the daedric helmet at all! its just so… meh compared to the rest of the armour, and wtf is up with the fact that you cant see your character’s eyes through it?

No love for Garcia Fucking Hotspur’s purple leather man-jacket?

I quite liked the Blood Dragon armor from Dragon Age: Origins.  Looked so damn badass, and it had decent value as well.  Worked well, but unfortunately wasn’t the strongest armor set in the game.  Also useless on any character (even Warrior) until he/she was strong enough to carry it, and taking note it was received at the very start of my game…

Agreed! Blood Dragon armour was rocking, and so was the Juggernaut armour. In fact, the game had quite a few really awesome-looking armour sets. ^___^

Juggernaut Armor was just a tad heavy if I’m not mistaken.  It tired out my Warrior very quickly, and seeing as I dislike simply tanking it took me some time to build up the Strength to carry this massive armor set.  I like Sword & Shield combo’s, max it out and activate Shield Wall.  Unable to be knocked down?  Yes please! :D
