Microsoft Surface Launching With Windows 8
Gabe Newell may not be falling over himself for Windows 8, but that won’t stop the software giant from releasing their latest OS software come October 26th. Along with Windows 8, Microsoft has now announced that they intend to release their tablet, Surface, on the same day.
A report filed today with the Securities and Exchange Commission confirmed that Microsoft intend to release their tablet on the same day as their new OS. The filing reads:
The next version of our operating system, Windows 8, will be generally available on October 26, 2012. At that time, we will begin selling the Surface, a series of Microsoft-designed and manufactured hardware devices.”
Microsoft has yet to announce any pricing details concerning the tablet, but since the launch model will be sporting ARM chipsets similar to other current tablets many analysts are guessing at a recommend retail price of $500 (appro. R4000). Microsoft also intends to release a more expensive “Pro” version of Surface, which will be equipped with Intel chips, about “three months after it releases the ARM-based Surface.” These more powerful tablets are meant to compete against ultrabooks currently on the market.
Is Surface something you’re planning on pouring money into?
