This Week In Indie: The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Indie Gala 11 And Primordia
We have trudged along through the final week of November and have now been bombarded with the current Steam sale, and the latest Humble Bundle. So I thought that this week I’d introduce you to another bundle, and other games to make your cash flow disappear. This is my early Christmas present to you. Anyway, let’s get this show on the road, an early Christmas special of note.
So I presume that you’ve all heard of Edmund McMillen, one of the geniuses behind Super Meat Boy. This time around his little gem of a game The Binding of Isaac will be receive a graphic overhaul and release on XBLA by the company Nicalis who are known for the updated remakes of games like Cave Story. The updated Xbox 360 version will have additional content, including the original expansion Wrath of the Lamb with some all new content. This new updated version of the game will be called The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth and will feature a new final chapter, two new playable characters, new items, rooms and bosses. The game will be receiving a 16-bit visual makeover in terms of visuals. Rebirth will also feature local 2-player co-op. The game will also have a new soundtrack to go with the new visuals, and will go into development some time in early 2013. I really can’t wait for this one.
Indie Gala 11 has arrived and is the pay-what-you-want bundle as you know it, where if pay more you can unlock a greater amount of content. Included in the Indie Gala 11 bundle are a bunch of awesome games which are: XIII Century: Gold Edition from Unicorn Games Studio; Men of War from Best Way; Imperial Glory from Pyro Studios; Cryostasis from Action Forms Ltd; Starwolves 3: Civil War from Elite Games Team; Men of War: Red Tide from 1C Company; and as a bonus game, King’s Bounty: The Legend from 1C Company.
This is the breakdown of the what each amount you pay gets you: paying less than $1 gets buyers a DRM-free copy of Imperial Glory, paying more than $1 but less than $4.49 gets buyers Imperial Glory, XIII Century, and Necrovision, paying more than $4.49 gets buyers all of the games listed, plus access to the Helldorado Bundle for $2.99 which includes Helldorado, Grand Ages – Rome, Shadow Harvest, and The Rockin’ Dead. There is a bonus game with King’s Bounty and two mystery unlocks. So there is a lot on offer. The deal is going for another week and four days. The starting average to pay for the bundle is currently $4.49. Most of the games in the bundle are available on Steam as well. This is what Indie Gala had to say about the bundle this time around:
Gives fans of indie games and indie music a chance to save money on awesome games and albums and contribute to a good cause at the same time! We believe that there is a close link between music, video games and comics. They are all forms of art that often complement each other. With our initiative we want to give many talented developers and artists the opportunity to have a wider audience. Indie Gala lets customers set their own price for high-quality indie games and music, then donate some or all of the proceeds to Able Gamers and Italian Red Cross for helping Emilia hit by an earthquake.
Wadjet Eye Games has just announced that their cyberpunk point-and-click adventure game Primordia will be releasing on the 5th of December. The game is developed by Wormwood Studios. Here are some of the story details:
Primordia tells the story of Horatio Nullbuilt and how one day his power-supply is stolen. Horatio must then abandon his cozy life of solitude and trek out into the world, in search of the thief, and his missing power-supply. As players explore Metropol city with Horatio, they will discover the truth behind the downfall of the human species through optional puzzles Wormwood Studios implemented throughout the game, allowing players to pay as much attention to the story as they wish.
Primordia is special on another level because it also has the voice talents of Logan Cunningham, who narrated Bastion, to work with. So the game already sounds better than a hundred other indie games. A demo for the game is available off Primordia’s official website. The game is also currently participating in Steam Greenlight. So go and check it out. We will have a review of the game up following the game’s release date.
That’s it for this week. I hope your weekend is filled with gaming goodness, of the indie variety in some way or form. Remember to keep it real and indie, and have a good one.
