BioWare Dev: Dragon Age 3 Is “Stunningly Beautiful” With Frostbite 2

According to BioWare’s Neil Thompson, Dragon Age 3: Inquisition is looking “stunningly beautiful” thanks to the Frostbite 2 engine. The developer also teased that fans won’t be disappointed once screenshots are released. All we have right now are some pieces of concept art.

Thompson, speaking with OXM, said of Frostbite 2, “Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2 were both done using BioWare’s own Eclipse engine, and it was starting to creak a little bit when Dragon Age 2 came out. Inquisition is being done on the Frostbite 2 engine and it is an astonishingly powerful engine.

“The Dragon Age artists were always slightly disappointed at how their work was visualised in the final product with Eclipse, but with Frostbite, they’ve just done some amazing stuff. There was a pre-production period where almost on a weekly basis I’d be sitting in the environment reviews and being blown away by what was coming out – it looks stunningly beautiful. So I think when we do start releasing screenshots, people won’t be disappointed.”

Thompson concluded, “Can you make fantasy beautiful in a different way? We think we have something special for Dragon Age 3: Inquisition.”

I still harbor enormous love for the original Dragon Age: Origins. When it comes to me, “Dragon Age 2″ is usually enough said to express my disappointment. Frostbite 2 is a much needed upgrade, because one of the game’s weakest areas was its graphics and art direction. They seem to be on the right track.

That said, I do find it a little bit funny that the BioWare developer is talking about how amazing the game looks yet we have no footage or screenshots to look over. Hopefully we will soon.

I’ve been waiting for an open-world game running on Frostbite 2 and hope this is as gorgeous as I’m imagining it will be.

This s definitely wetting my appetite. I love the Dragon Age universe, it has so much going for it, and a visual upgrade is just what the doctor ordered.
