I Get This Call Every Day Review 1

I Get This Call Every Day is a point and click indie game created by davidsgallant, that aims to deliver a lightly filtered experience of working in a customer service call center. The developer based the experience on his own day job at a call center. Basically, you’ll have to deal with an intellectually challenged, or just plain clueless, young man who is trying to change his home address. The idea of the game is that you need to refrain from losing your temper and getting fired, which is a test in itself. The catch phrase of the game says “lose politely, or lose spectacularly; the choice is yours”, and that’s really appropriate here as you start to feel exactly like you just can’t win when dealing with this creature.

The game features full voice acting that allows it to be both charming and humourous. I very much like the concept, and it’s a game where you’ll just sit back, smile, laugh a bit and of course try to refrain from raging. If you can relate to the material personally, then it will most likely be even better. It feels close to home, because I’m sure many of us have dealt with people like this before. You’ll talk to the customer by selecting from dialogue choices. If you act unprofessionally three times, you’ll get fired. If you lose your temper, you’ll get fired. From the early stages of the call, you’ll know that it’s going to be a hard fought battle. It’s a really enjoyable game, and it’s fun to see how things play out in the various paths you can take. A small nitpick on my part would be that you can’t cycle through or speed up dialogue in any way, which can make things feel a little slow on your second or third playthrough.

I know that this is just a small game designed to get a few smiles and laughs out of you, but I really like the concept, and I’d definitely be interested in playing a more complete game with multiple customers and more variety in how you can approach the calls. It could even be spiced up a bit with some mental cases or disturbed people getting on the phone with you. Suddenly, I’m finding myself imagining being on the phone with Liam Neeson. You know, during that epic phone call. Or imagine having to explain the law requirements of changing your address to Darth Vader. Alright I’m definitely letting my mind get carried away here, but it’s fun to think about and I’d definitely play a game like this with wacky elements.

I very much liked the game’s quirky visual style, as it looks like something right out of Microsoft Paint. According to the developer though it was created in GIMP using a drawing tablet. The screenshots here tell you all you need to know about the graphics of the game, and there’s not much else for me to say here other than that the visual style suits the game perfectly and it’s really hard not to like it.

I Get This Call Every Day Review 2

I Get This Call Every Day is a short game that’s charming, funny and entertaining, especially more so if you can relate to it and its content personally. It’s pretty interesting to think of this concept being expanded into a more complete game, but for now this will definitely put a smile on your face and get a few laughs out of you, which is all you need in this world. It’s cheap and very easy to recommend.
