Prey 2 Countdown Site Appears

Prey 2 popped onto the scene last year and while it looked nothing like the original Prey and seemed more like a Boba Fett story, it did have some promise but then disappeared and was thought to be cancelled. Turns out it’s still alive and the alien bounty hunting game may yet see the light of day.

A countdown site going under the domain name of Alien Noire has popped up but some brains over at NeoGAF have taken a look at the source code and suggested this points to a Prey 2 reveal in 27 days. More specifically a re-reveal but let’s not split hairs, it’s insensitive to bald people.

According to the information, the code contains tags such as Prey, Prey2, Prey 2, FPS, Bethesda Softworks, Human Head Studios, Alien Noire. All traces of this have since been removed from the source code, allegedly. For all we know, it may have never been there to begin with. At the bottom, it also says: “Tommy needs your help,” and the domain is listed under : The Collective – 17677 S. Muskogee Ave – Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

This makes sense since the first game’s protagonist was named Tommy and happened to be a Cherokee and Tahlequah happens to be the capital city for two federally recognised Cherokee tribes. It is also the city Tommy lives in.

Don’t get your hopes up just yet because the site could easily be fan-made since Prey developer Human Head seems to be occupied with other endeavours and the domain is registered through Dreamhost which is primarily used for the registration of personal domains. If this is a tease by Bethesda or Human Head then it is a clever one but there’s a good chance it’s just a spiteful troll by someone.

I suppose we’ll just have to wait and find out.

Human Head may not even be developing Prey 2 if this is indeed  a legitimate teaser site and if the game is in development then it looks as if the bounty hunting concept was ditched in favour of following up the original Prey properly.
