The Gaming Industry Taking A Break

The Gaming Industry Taking A Break

We all enjoy a break every now and then.

I must admit, it may appear rather impatient when I’m talking about a holiday or mini-vacation, seeing how it is only February.

I had the idea about someone sitting in a park, having a lovely picnic while one troublesome bee disturbs him or her every few minutes or so. Perhaps after a few futile attempts, the bee will abandon the smidgen of hope it had and return to the hive empty handed.

This person can be anyone. It can be a relative. Perhaps a friend? Maybe just an acquaintance.

Let’s imagine this person literally being the gaming industry.

Peacefully taking a breather and enjoying some fresh air.

What were to happen if this was indeed the gaming industry? How will the world differ when the gaming industry decides to take a little recreational time for itself?

Keep in mind the following; gamers are impatient. Who will be bothered more? The industry itself, by a bunch of whiny cretins, or perhaps the aforementioned cretins by the lack of the aforesaid industry?

It may prove to be a knotty problem.

Let’s say that this is a definite reality and it just so happens that the industry is sick and tired of all the moaning. It packs its bags and with a mighty swing of its long forearm, grabbing the whole lot of gaming protagonists and antagonists, alongside the side-characters. With a few mighty and irritated stomps, it’s out of the door and before long, it is out of sight.

A trip to the beach? Maybe the previously mentioned picnic in the park without the screaming children falling from their swings?

Let’s look at the beach scenario. Stretched out across the sand, enjoying the fresh air and soaking in the sun. Relaxation without a worry in the world.

Where will the characters be? Serious Sam sitting in a garden-chair in Ancient Egypt while taking a smoke break. At least it is something different than shooting all kinds of crazy enemies in the face. (While in Egypt.)

Marcus Fenix can take off his armour and his angry.

Sonic, Mario and Rayman enjoying a wilderness expedition. (It lasts for a while, until they start jumping on every living creature and static object, spewing forth coins and mushrooms. Using the coins on entertainment for the evening and smoking the mushrooms.)

Will we be sitting in front of monitors and TVs staring at an empty level? An environment without any life whatsoever?

When it returns…

Will we be more grateful and appreciate the idea of gaming again?

Actually this should be vacation time for the industry after that end of year rush :P
I’d love a game where you’re running along as Rayman and see Nathan Drake chilling in the background sipping Mojitos or maybe you’re fighting pirates and tigers in Far Cry 3 and you walk into a bar and there’s Max Payne slumped over or maybe you’re in Hitman and Kane from Kane and Lynch is taking it easy, shooting some targets (wait, that already happened)
