This Week In Indie: Evoland, Kaiju Combat And Sanam
So welcome to another edition of This Week In Indie and this week has been quite choc-full with indie news. Many great games are being released and it is my sworn duty to show you guys what’s going on. As always, we must get this show on the road.
The first game we’ll be looking at is called Evoland and it is taglined by Shiro Games as being an RPG where you play through the evolution of JRPGs from its infancy on the Gameboy to the SNES, and beyond. The gameplay mixes in old school Zelda, Final Fantasy and other more modern JRPGs for a great twist. The visuals are also great on the eye. This is what Shiro Games had to say about the game:
Evoland is a game and a story. The story of action adventure gaming as seen in the Zelda or Final Fantasy series, starting with the early age of action RPGs, when a few pixels were enough to make us dream for hours. New players will discover a bit of video game history and a very fun gameplay, and veterans will also enjoy a host of references to legendary titles scattered along the game.
The game will enhance and continue the story started in Evoland Classic, taking you further along the history of action adventure gaming, adding collectible items, new monsters and bosses, and more importantly new play styles and full 3D environements!
The next game is Kaiju Combat which is a game that has finally received enough backing from its Kickstarter campaign to be fully developed. Essentially what the game will be is a giant monster online fighting game. The game will support one to four players online, and you’ll be able to pit classic giant monsters against one another like Godzilla and Gamera, and some original monsters as well. This is what the developers Sunstone Games had to say about the game:
Kaiju Combat is the final word in giant-monster battle games. It takes the core team & technology from the Pipeworks/Atari Godzilla fighting games, and merges them with the design input & creative output of our amazing fans.
The final game we’ll be looking at this week is called Sanam. Sanam is vastly different from the rest of the crowd as the characters themselves are composed entirely of food. In the game, you play as a radish monk, and weapon specialist, named Filjeh. During his routine mediation, ancient fallen gods awaken across the land and start wreaking havoc. It is up to Filjeh to take on these gods with the aid of his broccoli sword. The game itself is an side-scrolling platformer by Team Food Fighter and this is what they had to say about the game:
Sanam is a side scrolling platform action adventure game, developed independently by ‘Team Food Fighter’; a group of 4 people trying to fulfill their dreams.
The gameplay is inspired by our childhood’s favorite games like Prince of Persia, Viewtiful Joe, Zelda and many newly released games too. Full of urban myths and treasures just like some of the old school “Retro Games”.
Well that’s it for this week, there are still tons of indie games to play, and more to be found. Remember to enjoy your weekend, keep it real and indie.
