Heavy Rain is an upcoming PlayStation 3 video game which is being developed by the French studio, Quantic Dream. The game is being directed by Quantic Dream’s founder and CEO David Cage, who also wrote and directed the studio’s two previous games, Omikron: The Nomad Soul, and Fahrenheit. The game is scheduled to be released in early 2010. David Cage has confirmed a demo, but the Quantic Dream team it’s still choosing what “Scene” of the game shall be used for the demo. Details about the plot of Heavy Rain remain scarce. Director David Cage has stated that Heavy Rain would be “a very dark film/thriller with mature themes”, without any supernatural elements, and that “the real message of the game is about how far you’re willing to go to save someone you love.”

In an interview with Dutch magazine Chief in 2008, David Cage gave a brief overview of Heavy Rain’s narrative and ambitions. A translation was then made, which read as follows:

“Heavy Rain is about normal people who have landed in extraordinary situations. I wanted a much more personal story. The first thing that came to my mind, as a father of two little boys, was that the main theme should simply be a father’s love for his son. This is not a game about saving the princess or the world. It’s purely about a father’s love. The main story will revolve around four different characters, and we’re putting the spotlight on their perceptions. The question ‘what is good and what is evil’ is the key here, that will be just a matter of viewpoint…I believe heavily in moral choices, I’m going to use them A LOT. They’re not about being good or bad, but about finding the right balance.”

There are four playable characters mentioned: an FBI profiler named Norman Jayden, a private detective named Scott Shelby, an architect named Ethan Mars, and journalist named Madison Paige. All playable characters are said to be looking for a serial killer known as “The Origami Killer”.

According to a demonstration given to Edge Magazine, the game will use a unique control scheme. A trigger button on the PlayStation 3 controller will move the character forward. It will take advantage of the button’s analogue function, allowing the user to control the speed of the character’s movement by pressing harder or softer on the button. The left analogue stick will control the movement of the character’s head and the direction the character moves in relation to where the character is looking. David Cage explains that this frees the movement of the character from the perspective of the camera. The rest of the game is played using a series of context sensitive actions such as picking up a bottle in a grocery store and hitting a robber on the head with it, and quick time events, normally for chase and combat sequences. Players are able to bring up a selection of their character’s current thoughts by holding the L1 button and pressing corresponding buttons to say or do what they’re thinking. These thoughts will sometimes blur, and selecting them at the wrong time will affect the character’s reaction, causing them to say or do something in the wrong way.

If a character dies, the game does not end, and play control switches to another character, with the events of the previous character’s death affecting the story. In the event that all four characters die, there is a proper conclusion to the story and the game ends.

This is the most updated news we could collect with such scarce information, we will be looking out for more stories from Quantic Dream and keep you informed.

Sadly, there no real screen shots available.

We sure will definitely get our hands on this game for our so anticipated gamers out there.

BioShock 2 is an upcoming first-person shooter video game, developed by 2K Marin and 2K Australia as the sequel to the critically acclaimed BioShock.

In order to follow with this article you should have knowledge from BioShock 1. We will be talking about Big Daddies, Big Sister and Little Sisters. The story line of the game is quite complicated to explain, but we’ll try out best — just for you!

Set on New Years Eve of 1970, ten years after the events of BioShock, a number of towns around the world have been reporting kidnappings of young girls, with witnesses reporting the attackers as both extremely fast and thin, with red lights often reported as either being worn by the attacker or spotted nearby in the sea. This single attacker is in fact the Big Sister, one of the Little Sisters from the first entry in the series, who has mechanized herself in a similar fashion to the Big Daddies and has become the ruler of the underwater city of Rapture. Under her control, the city has reached an equilibrium in which she “actively maintains the city’s infrastructure, and violently hunts anyone down who disrupts the balance of power”; Tenenbaum, discoverer of ADAM (the genetic material for the production of Plasmids) and original creator of the Little Sisters, also states that the Big Sister has begun kidnapping girls to turn them “into creatures like her”. Tenenbaum also states that she is “like the golem story, not understanding the wrong that she does”, hinting that her actions may be controlled by a different force. It is also known that Sofia Lamb, a former political rival of Andrew Ryan has taken over Rapture, and created a new religion called ‘The Rapture Family’.

The player takes the role of the first Big Daddy, a prototype for the Big Daddies seen in the original game. The character possesses superior speed and intelligence to other Big Daddies, as well as free will. As such, the player uses the Big Daddy’s drill and rivet gun as weapons, though the drill will overheat if used continuously. The rivet gun will have several types of ammo, similar to the first game.

As a “rogue” Big Daddy, players will attempt to capture the Little Sisters from other Big Daddies who wander around Rapture. Once a Little Sister is caught, the player will again have the option of choosing the fate of the Little Sisters. The player will also be able to step outside the city of Rapture into the ocean due to the diving suit they wear. Here the player can explore the ocean floor, recover from fights, marvel at the city from the outside and pick up special items. Other returning features from the first game include audio diaries, and the ability for the player to regenerate through the use of Vita-Chambers. In addition to the single-player story, multiplayer will be a feature in BioShock 2, but this will not take the form of co-operative play.

This is very much anticipated game for everyone since BioShock had won numerous amount of awards. So make sure you grab a copy early next year, this is the game you don’t really want to miss out on.

As all of the good games came out in September and early November, we have received a little census on piracy. Piracy is something no one game creator will ever be able to get around, it will always be a major factor in the industry. Some companies try their best to combat this, however, they are always unsuccessful.

Novembers Top 10 Pirated Games

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Dragon Age: Origins

Borderlands

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (Sith edition)

Need for Speed: SHIFT

Football Manager 2010

Grand Theft Auto IV

Batman Arkham Asylum

Manhunt 2

Resident Evil 5

We have analyzed which games were the most popular, or in other words, which games have been pirated the most.

The result was not that surprising with Modern Warfare coming first, followed by Dragon Age: Origins.

Usually a census like this is really interesting because we get to see what games pirates like. For instance, it’s obvious that a pirate would rather get the most talked about game opposed to a simple racing game.

Remember kids, piracy is bad. You can get into, uh, trouble or something. Keep yo BitTorrent closed, bra!

In the 21st century, shortly after the immigration to our neighbouring Solar System had begun, an enormous dark object appeared beyond the orbit of Pluto. The object, called ‘Shard Zero’ by the scientists, possessed some kind of a lethal aura, spreading mysterious ‘plague’ of cosmic scale around itself, twisting and disrupting the very nature of space and life. There was no time for reaction, and all attempts to study the unidentified object remained unsuccessful. When we finally realized that the object is moving on a straight collision course with our planet, it was too late. Shard Zero hit Earth with tremendous amount of force and that was the end of our civilization.

WorldShift is set thousands of years later, when our civilization is no more than a declining myth. The remains of Shard Zero still are spreading its Plague, twisting and re-shaping Earth and its nature, sometimes in the course of centuries and sometimes in a matter of hours. Human beings developed a new culture and now live in 5 mega-cities, struggling every day for the valuable resources they require to survive. The rest of Earth is occupied by the Tribes, successors of early humans, that were affected by the Plague.

A NEW TAKE ON STRATEGY

WorldShift is a next generation cyber-fantasy RTS game designed to be quick and easy to learn and play. It offers hectic, and also fierce encounters all around the Earth, along with a fascinating story uncovering ancient secrets about the true nature of the Shard and the Plague. But also, WorldShift introduces many features new to the genre, like modifiable factions, unqiue cooperative multiplayer gameplay, and much more.

ITEMS, RELICS AND THE ABILITY GRID

In WorldShift, there are no technology trees featuring hundreds of upgrades; instead, WorldShift allows the players to discover and acquire a vast number of items and powerful relics that they can use to freely change their game play and preferred tactics to surprise their foes. The players will gather items as they fight their opponents and as rewards for completing missions. In order to discover the most powerful relics, they must form teams with their most trusted friends and go on deadly missions where it is difficult to survive. This is where the real challenge awaits.

This game’s graphic is crazy! The graphics is catching up to Crysis. The details of the players, the surroundings, trees and the background is beyond great compared to other RTS games. This game will have a “T” age restriction, so kiddies, when you become a teen you may of course enjoy this as well.

Release date is set for 11 November.

Need-To-Know before playing the game:

BioWare has almost finished developing the Mass Effect 2 that everyone has been waiting for. For those who do not know about this game, it is basically a RPG-game based on the future.

The Mass Effect trilogy is a masterful science fiction game set in a vast universe filled with dangerous alien life forms and mysterious unknown planets. For those who have played before, you can now expect better graphics and user settings as well as new improvements to nearly every aspect of the game. Expect major changes to areas such as combat and AI, space exploration, and technical systems.

There will be new area transitions, frame rates, and texture loading as well. All of these are incorporated into the overall game design which includes a new planetary exploration vehicle. BioWare has upgraded a lot when compared to the previous game.

However there have been quite many technical questions raised. Such as, if you could carry on with the previous game, or is the game capable of running on a standardized computer. At the moment they are working hard to fix all the bugs and queries from people.

And, yes, we have seen the trailer and it is impressive.

These are the significant upgrades they have made so far on the game.

• Prepare for a suicide mission to save humanity
• Choose between 19 different weapon classes
• Devastating heavy weapons (that) can end a battle in seconds
• Recruit a team of the galaxy’s most dangerous operatives
• Explore the galaxy— scan planets to uncover unique secret missions
• Train and equip your team to survive insurmountable odds
• Control your conversation with physical moments of intense action

The game will be out on PC, XBox 360, PS2 and PS3 in 2010.

NC Soft, the South Korean game company, has pretty much released Aion. This game has built up much anticipation after the South Korean company released Lineage I and II.

Aion will feature the latest technology, along with new graphics and gameplay which allows for one of the best roll playing games that one could feast their eyes upon. The new game will have four primary classes, and then eight specialized classes.

Players will start the game by choosing one of the four primary classes: Warrior, Mage, Scout, or Priest. After they reach level 10, players will then be able to choose from two specialized classes associated with that base class. This little feature allows players to get a feel for the play style of the class before making their final decision. Each faction will have a slight variation in class skills.

Aion is similar to WoW, but some would say that it is way better. However, only time will tell.

O! Yes, we forgot to mention, it IS indeed an online multiplayer game. Aion is based on a story line, but it still promises to be a great RPG game.

The game is priced at $69.99, which works out to around R530 with today’s exchange rate.

Microsoft has, finally, released a new operating system called, Windows 7. Bye bye Vista.

Windows 7 is not quite a “Vista service pack.”, however it does share a lot of the core tech, and was clearly designed to fix nearly every bad thing anyone ever said about Vista. This OS is much faster, more user friendly, easier to use, in fact it’s like a whole new world.

Of course all these upsides must have at least one downside, and this is for the XP users. Windows 7 cannot be installed directly over XP. Unfortunately, either you have to format your whole hard drive or get your hands on a copy of Vista from your mates.

Windows 7 is designed to run all of the XP programs, except for few drivers, where you can then case use Vista drivers.

For the gamers — Windows 7 allows for more realistic graphics which will top any other OS. Not to forget it is DirectX 11 compatible.

Windows 7 does have a few bad things, for instance the network sharing centre: it is much, much faster than Vista, but it isn’t really user friendly — if you don’t know what you are doing (I wouldn’t let my mom to fiddle with it…). Secondly, the new Internet Explorer is neither good nor fast. But we all know that you’ll be downloading Firefox, Opera, or Chrome as soon as you get Windows 7 up and running.

Windows 7 gives you an optional update for Live Essentials, with apps like Mail, Photo Gallery and MovieMaker. It’s a very safe release, in other words, take what was good about Vista, fix what people bitched about, and voila.

People want a safe operating system, not an experiment in behavioral science. But even as Windows 7 restores some of the joy in using Windows, you get the sense that it could have been more, if it hadn’t been saddled with the tainted legacy of Vista. We wonder what Windows 7 would have been like without Vista… Either way there are no bugs or glitches found in Windows 7, yet, but Microsoft is always waiting for your comments and useful ideas.

A quick persuasion: 10 reasons why you would want to use Windows 7

Get quicker access to your files and folders.

Easily create and share files.

Manage open windows easily.

Connect to network easily.

Quickly find what you are looking for.

Do more in less time.

Share files and printers among multiple PCs.

Touch and tap, no point and clicking.

Stay entertained effortlessly.

Manage devices easily.

And lastly enjoying using this new OS!
