Incredible Connection will kick 2010 off with a new One Night Cup series. The league will boast an Afrihost partnership which sees prizing in the form of 5GB prepaid ADSL accounts for first place, and 3GB ADSL prepaid accounts for second place, per player, per team.

The competition takes place on the 31st of January and it will involve Call of Duty 4 teams. The registration opens on the 25th of January for these teams, and there are only 19 slots available. The league structure will see 16 official teams where 3 will be substitutes in case players drop out.

Following the CoD4 Cup will be a Quake Live Duel Tournament. The QL tournament will allow for 32 players to be accepted into a best of 3 single elimination format tournament. The first place winners will receive 5GB ADSL accounts, while second place holders will receive 3GB accounts. This competition will take place on the 14th of February.

Incredible is hoping to then host another competition after this, it will involve an undecided/unannounced game. qu1ksh0t, the host, is planning to do something with Counter Strike Source, however these teams are really bad at signing up for events. So, CSS players, if you’re keen email qu1k@incredible.co.za to pre-book your spot.

You can also email qu1k@incredible.co.za for additional information on the tournament.

Over the past few days we’ve been chatting to the guys from BloodMoney, a new online tournament with the big M involved.

The ‘big M’, you might ask? Money, money money.

That’s right, BloodMoney are hosting online gaming competitions where competitors can win cash back for their efforts in destroying faces.

The tournament will be team-based (for certain games), and then individually-based for other games.

To allow for prize money, the hosts are simply asking that each player enters by handing in a fee of only R10.

It’s a winner-take-all style tournament, and this essentially means that the winner will claim all of the cash. All of the cash being, entrance fees minus 10 percent (labour, hosting, bla bla).

At the moment sponsors are minimum, however Square Eyed Computers will host games and supply servers.

BloodMoney are expecting to host games throughout the entire day. It’s loads of fun for the holidays when you’re bored.

Prizing will not be limited to money, as gamers can win spot prizes for extraordinary achievements such as outrageous kill-to-death ratios.

The contact address for the main-man behind the name can be found here, while the web address can be find right over – here.

Questions are arising, I can see it already. We’ll try answer these to the best of our ability.

1. Skill levels

There will be various skill levels and various skill level servers. This means that good players will win, mediocre players will win and n00bs will win. BloodMoney will judge your skill level to ensure that no one good sneaks into bad-player games.

Prizing for the skill level games change as Elite players will win more of the cash then the n00bs – this is because they are Elite.

2. Cheating

Banned on spot, ’nuff said. Oh, and thanks for your cash, cheating douche.

3. Games played

CSS
DotA
CoD 4

These tournaments will be once a week, or so.

We now go into week 3 of the Intel iGame Call of Duty 4 League and things seem to be heating up in the pro bracket. With only one week [...]

We now go into week 3 of the Intel iGame Call of Duty 4 League and things seem to be heating up in the pro bracket. With only one week left of games, teams will be fighting to make the final placings into the next round of the league.

Group 1

¬ Brazen (4points)
¬ UbS.En (2points)
¬ EVO (2points)
¬ dS.eQ (0points)

It seems Brazen have had quite an easy time, taking two easy wins against dS.eQ and EVO. If UbS.EN wants to make it through to the next round they are going to have an uphill battle and will either have to pull off a win against Brazen or hope that EVO doesn’t win against dS.eQ – if there is a three way between EVO, dS.eQ and UbS.EN one team will go through on points difference.

Group 2

¬ UbS.GT (2points)
¬ sG.Evoke (4points)
¬ Element T1 (0points)
¬ Bestiality (2points)

With Bestiality taking on Element T1 who have shown promise but not put up much of a fight, we will most likely see sG.Evoke and Beastiality move through to the next round. UbS.GT have an outside chance of making it though but they will have to play out of their skins against the group leaders or hope that Element T1 can somehow pull off a win against the strong Bestiality team.

Group 3

¬ miNt Gaming (4points)
¬ Pantheon (2points)
¬ UbS.ZK (2points)
¬ ATF.T (0points)

Our boys in Green have almost guaranteed their spot in the next round. If Pantheon manages to beat miNt, and UbS.ZK beat ATF.T by a long enough margin we could just see the miNt Gaming team be knocked out. But judging by their strong performance against both UbS.ZK and ATF.T the teams that are most likely to progress are miNt Gaming and Pantheon Gaming.

Group 4

¬ A*P (2points)
¬ ATF.A (2points)
¬ Prodigy (4points)
¬ Pandemonium (0points)

In a tight match against Prodigy, only marginally losing out to them 11-13 on mp_backlot – A*P are in a good postition to move through to the next round with Prodigy.

In all four groups, we could see some upsets occurring in this last week. It will all come down to who wants it more, some teams still with a fighting spirit wanting to take home a podium place, whilst others still fatigued from the past season. Teams who are most likely to move through to the next round are:

• Brazen
• EVO
• sG.Evoke
• Bestiality
• miNt Gaming
• Pantheon Gaming
• A*P
• Prodigy

Battle of the Clan for Call of Duty 4 will end on the 30th of August when brazeN face-off with Pantheon Gaming in the finals at 18:00. The Pantheon team [...]

Battle of the Clan for Call of Duty 4 will end on the 30th of August when brazeN face-off with Pantheon Gaming in the finals at 18:00. The Pantheon team will be required to beat the brazeN team twice as they were previously over come by the winners bracket champions earlier in the tournament.

The brazeN line-up will be:

- Sean “r0adrunner” Grobler (SMG)
- Michael “Bl4ck0ut” Ferguson (SMG)
- Stephen “Vitrolic” White (Assault)
- Steyn “Vindicator” Grobler (Assault)
- Max “fAiTH” Mclaughlin (Scope)

The Pantheon line-up will be:

- David “Numb” Guimaraes (SMG / Assault)
- Hayden “Pooks” Huntington (SMG)
- Kevin “Privacy” Woodland (Assault)
- Gary “Craolia” Noble (SMG / Assault)
- Chris “Evax” Noble (Scope)

A couple of players have said that brazeN will defeat Pantheon in the finals as the teams current form is just spectacular. The unfortunate detail about Pantheon having to win twice will definitely mount extra pressure on the team when they battle for prize money.

The sources, interviewed by doGaming, said that the brazeN team has already beaten Pantheon on their strongest maps, Crossfire and Strike.

Pantheon has a strong heart, and we can only say best of luck to both teams.

Spectators will be happy to hear that the entire game will be shout casted over Teamspeak (196.2.97.211:8767), as well as relayed on IRC with a score-bot in the #cod4rank channel on the ShadowFire IRC server.

Winners of the final will receive a R5,000 Incredible Connection voucher, where second place will be awarded with R2,350. The team that is placed third will receive R1,550.

The buzz around the water cooler seems extra intense this month; the MSSA debates are picking up once more, rAge 2009 is around the corner!!! and Syncidy Gaming will unveil [...]

The buzz around the water cooler seems extra intense this month; the MSSA debates are picking up once more, rAge 2009 is around the corner!!! and Syncidy Gaming will unveil its long awaited Competitive LAN in the Western Cape.

The first weekend of September (4th-6th) will see Syncidy ‘The Next Level’ launching at Proteaville, Bellville. They will be running both a Dota and COD4 tournament with prizes held for the winners of each.

When investigating the reasons behind this new lan, the ‘About Us’ page at www.syncidy.co.za had the following to say:

SynCidy was born in October 2007 when a group of gamers, tired of the lack of interest with regards to competitive game play in South Africa, banded together to make their dream of a competitive monthly LAN event a reality. Read further…

Looking at the table layout available [here] the LAN looks to be catering for 100-160 gamers, and with the monthly OC event rumored to not taking place during the month of September, seats are expected to fill up fast.

The official notice looks like this:

So don’t be left behind (like some of us were with rAge tickets), booking can be made online (discounted to R100) straight from their homepage, Syncidy Gaming!

The young miNt Call of Duty 4 squad has done it yet again, and shown why they deserve to be considered one of South Africa’s premiere teams. The team has grown immensely throughout the league, having won 24 out of their 25 games, only to drop one game against Borg – Cyborgs who won rAge last year. Unfortunately that one loss meant that they could not be promoted into the premiere league and would have to play the second leg in the 1st Division for leg 2.Â

During leg 2 of the 1st Division the team seemed to shine with their new lineup. The team managed to crush every opponent standing in their way, in total the team won 190 rounds and only lost 52. Behind the miNt team was DyN|Phoenix, who was the only team to give our boys a run for their money, when they played mp_strike with miNt winnning 13-11.Â

With the current state of the community, many gamers would say the competitive e-Sports community in South Africa is going through a rough patch. A lot of people are focusing on the negatives at the moment, such as Ben “Equinox” Greenwood leaving the SA Gaming community, the number one TeamFortress 2 team, Brazen, are inactive and there are rumors that they could split, many of the good players are moving overseas, and lastly the problem tournament administrators have with the lack of enthusiasm and gratitude gamers show towards their tournaments.Â

While most people are focusing on the negatives lets take the time to reflect back on the positives.Â

In 2008 we saw the very first installment of the BOTC Call of Duty 4 and Counter-Strike: Source competitions, arguably the most premiere online tournaments to date, it could even rival some international competitions, in terms of prizes, organisation and of course the competition. Although it was a rough start for Robert “iNFy” Hart he weathered the storm and pulled through, showing that with enough perseverance and determination, dreams can become a reality.Â

Most of us also saw, or heard of the most notable sponsorship in South African gaming history go to BFB (Big Fat B*stards). Where Incredible Connection sponsored them R60 000 worth of gaming hardware. Again part of the community were negative, and retaliated out of jealousy asking why they had been sponsored as the team hadn’t won anything of note or placed well in any of the premiere online and offline tournaments, and that there were far more deserving teams. BFB too weathered the storm and now boast one of the strongest lineups the Call of Duty 4 community has ever seen. All they need to do now, is learn how to work as a unit, and soon they should be unstoppable.

For  the rest of the story head on over to the miNt Gaming website.

The Intel Battle Of The Clans competition is about to go live once again. The very successful tournament hosted and run by Robert “iNFy” Hart has proven to be one of, if not, the most premiere online competition South Africa has to offer. With Intel sponsoring some huge prizes, the tournament draws in all the big names. Registrations are about to go live with the competition scheduled to start on the 27 of June. The next BOTC will prove to be even more exciting than the last one.

ounter-Strike: Source

This time round we may see some new champions, with most of the top teams having had lineup changes since the last BOTC. In the Counter-Strike: Source BOTC v4 competition, the community saw Eternal Conflict take the title. But since then, the miNt Gaming team (7th) has strengthened their lineup, and should be able to better their previous placing. Pantheon Gaming (5th) has also gone through some major lineup changes. Some say the team isn’t as strong as it used to be and that the players just aren’t dedicated enough anymore. A team to look out for is Soviet, regarded by some as South Africa’s strongest team at the moment, having crushed all the competition at the MPLD LAN in May. This will be their first big online competition, so it will be interesting to see how they fair. The asceNt (2nd) lineup has had minimal changes. They still seem to have one of the strongest lineups around, but providing that a lot of the other teams are catching up skill-wise, asceNt will have to up their game quite a bit if they want to reach the finals again.

In all four of the previous BOTC Counter-Strike: Source competitions, there has always been a wild-card managing to place in the top 3. In the very first BOTC we saw Team Random taking 3rd position. In the second, TAB took 3rd. In the third installment of the BOTC competition Team Enmity claimed 2nd spot ahead of Pantheon. Last BOTC saw c7e claiming 3rd. With the past results and current teams on form we could see the standings change this year. The probability of seeing an eC/Soviet final is highly likely, and judging by previous results anyone of out of the miNt, asceNt, and Pantheon teams could place in the top3.Â

For  the rest of the story on the TeamFortress and Call of Duty 4 competitions, head on over to the miNt Gaming website.Â

The first two weeks of Leg 2 have been completed in the league that helps to define the Call of Duty 4 landscape in South Africa. With distinct leaders of the pack in both the first division and premier league already stepping forward after only 3 matches.

A large amount of premier league quality teams poured into the first division after the end of leg one, moving up from the second division. The quality of opposition though was stinted after a large number of teams withdrew forcing AGASA to move sides up to the Premier League from the first division and consequently fill the first division with teams from the second division.

After 3 matches four teams in the first division remain unbeaten with only two having won all their matches, miNt and Delta Squadron, with miNt leading on round difference. miNt defeated Dynasty, one of the favorites to advance, 13-11 on backlot after the match looked to be heading toward a draw, while delta squadron showed their intentions mauling 1st.sigma 16-8 on strike. These two teams meet in the next round of matches and a victory for either side will put them as for-runners to be promoted to the Premier league.

HSP.custard and RRM.the unit are in 3rd and 4th respectively with 5 points after the two drew against each other in their first match on strike.. Dynasty and 1st sigma round off the top 6 both recovering well from their respective defeats to the top 2. Five teams lie below 2 points and with 7 matches remaining will be hoping to garner at least 6 points which would virtually guarantee avoiding relegation. Only one team is certain to be relegated, borg.sentinals, after they were forced to withdraw due to player shortages.

One would have hoped that the Premier league had settled and attained 10 teams that could match each other pound for pound and produce some close results. Unfortunately most matches in the early rounds have been one sided affairs, with Feisty Females, the only all girl COD4 team, UBS.FM, DAC.crusaders and both BFB teams all suffering heavily losses. Leg 2 in essence looks to be a repeat of leg 1 with a clear top 4 and the rest fighting to stay above the relegation zone, most notably Pantheon Gaming a constant in previous Premier leagues is missing after disbanding.

Brazen (second place BOTCv1 and first place Igame league) hopped from second division straight to the premier league after winning the elimination rounds that were used to decide promotion. They suffered a shock draw to DI chaos after up showing BFB.lard 19-5 in the first round, but later it was revealed that for a number of rounds Brazen could only field 4 players and played with unusual weaponry to make the match more “interesting”. This left them third on the log, 1 point behind UBS.saints and Entropy Gaming while tie with DI.chaos.

UBS.saints had a close shave with A*P.united winning 13-11 but still lead the log after massacring DAC.crusaders. Meanwhile Entropy Gaming has been steadily going about their business, rolling over all its opponents and winning by 8 rounds or more in every match.Â

The top 6 is rounded off by A*P.united and 1st.alpha both on 4 points. Six teams in the league are on 2 points or less with Feisty Females, the only all girls team, sitting in last place with no points. Two teams to watch are the BFB teams who are sitting in 7th and 8th respectively. Both have played most of their toughest matches in the first 3 rounds and should only move up the log.Â

With 9 matches to go there is certain to be a dog fight at the bottom. If Feisty Females and DAC.crusaders want to avoid relegation, they will need to find some kind of form. While at the top Brazen have to start taking things more seriously if they want to reaffirm their standing as one of the top, if not the top team in South Africa by winning their first attempt at the Premier League with Entropy Gaming quietly and successfully move toward what will be a significant showdown between the two.

Registrations have been opened for the AGASA League: leg 2, teams have from now until the 20th of April to register themselves for the league. Teams that stayed active throughout the first leg have already been placed into the premier and first division leagues (depending on your game of choice), and new teams wishing to register for the new leg will have to compete in the first or second divisions.

The first leg saw many Call of Duty 4 teams and Counter-Strike: Source teams dropping out of the league, due to inactive players or bad performances. The Counter-Strike: Source league was hotly contested with asceNt and Pantheon topping their respective groups, a big shock was the powerhouse, heAd, choosing to disband after somewhat of a poor showing in BOTCv4. A lot of new teams have formed and will hopefully register for leg 2 of the league.

Both the Counter-Strike: Source and Call of Duty 4 teams have been struggling to find suitable players to fill the fifth position available in both teams. The teams have now found more than capable players, that will bring much needed experience. Both teams believe they now have stronger lineups, more than capable of being a competitive team, as they have shown in recent friendlies.Â

The Counter-Strike: Source team has recruited long time Counter-Strike 1.6 player zer0ch4nce, who has competed in many tournaments which include ESWC and KODE5 qualifiers with teams such as PixelMassacre and zeroEffect. The team has also welcomed M1gHTy who has been an active member of the Counter-Strike: Source community for quite some time now, with his ability to read the game as well as be able to concentrate on his own. The two new additions have ultimately strengthened the lineup.

The new Counter-Strike: Source lineup is as follows:

• AJ M1gHTy Morkel
• JP vadeR De Villiers
• James zer0ch4nce Wijnberg
• Kline w1domaka Moralee
• Daniel merc Balusik

With the loss of IceMunki and Tom in a relatively short period of time, the Call of Duty 4 team has found replacements that have not only proven their worth in previous teams but have also brought a certain flair to the team that was not there perviously, making the team a far more formidable opponent. Krimzon deciding to make the change from Counter-Strike: Source to the Call of Duty 4 team has helped stabilized the team, and with the addition of MoeFoe who has been playing Call of Duty 4 since it came out, the two new players have helped the team become even more competitive.

The new Call of Duty 4 lineup is as follows:

• Sakkie RandomHero Bason
• Timothy Krimzon Woolley
• Morné Hawk Richard
• Nikolaus MoeFoe Moe
• Marius Stripe van der Merwe

At the moment computer gaming in South Africa is facing a big problem, namely the MSSA. For those who are not familiar with this horrible organisation, they are the ones who can ‘award’ both National and Provincial colours for computer gaming.

The problem which we are facing is that the MSSA wants full power, and in order to obtain this they will do anything.

In regards to the MSSA wanting power, gamers have now started to take a stand against this organisation and its growth.

The first boycott started when the Call of Duty 4 teams decided to not enter the leagues. It was then followed by the OC & OGA meeting where players asked the OC and the OGA to remove all affiliation with the MSSA. We can now say that it has been taken to the next level, where gamers have created an online petition – available here – in order to ‘self regulate’.

Here’s a short piece from the petition:

This document serves as a positioning statement for the PC and console gaming community of South Africa on its desire to self regulate.

The document discusses the current federation, Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), which currently has the power to run federated leagues and award school, provincial and national colours as well as put forward gamers’ names to the Protea Board of Control for Protea Colours.

NakedPenguin leaves the miNt  COD4 team and will be replaced by Stripe.

It saddens us to inform the community of the recent departure of Jonathan “NakedPenguin” Waters, who is leaving the miNt  Gaming team, as well as the CoD4 gaming community due to personal reasons. He joined the the miNt organization, in early January when the Gozu squad joined the team. He has been an active part of the COD4 community for the last 3 years, and played a big role in the miNt Call of Duty 4 team. The relatively well known player Marius “Stripe” van der Merwe has stepped in to replace NakedPenguin, and will now be part of the 5 man team participating in BOTC and AGASA. Although NakedPenguin will be inactive until he has finished with his studies, he will still be very much apart of the team, and will be the unofficial 6th for the team.

miNt Gaming place second at OC/Frontosa LAN

The miNt  Call of Duty 4 team at the recent OC LAN The miNt cod4 team recently participated in the OC/Frontosa Call of Duty 4 LAN competition acquiring second place just behind Brazen’s cod4 team. The following review was done by the miNt  COD4 captain Sakkie “RandomHero” Basson.

On Friday miNt  arrived at OC, NakedP couldn’t make it so GibbOlution, an old QQ player, subbed in his place. Stripe had already told brazen he would sub for them so he was unavailable. Among the other clans at the event were A*P, 2 UBS teams, 1ST and brazen. Saturday morning saw the first games being played. miNt started off by playing HuD, with the well known css player asceNt_gl1tch, making a team with his friends that entered the tournament for fun. The game was a walk over and we immediately found ourselves in the semi finals. 1ST went on to beat A*P, and brazen beat UbS securing themselves a spot in the finals. While I was watching 1ST play A*P to determine which team we would play in the semi finals, IceMunki’s pc started giving problems. The semi’s started and with IceMunki’s pc still giving problems he was forced to play on one of the tournament admin’s pc’s, jimz0r. miNt proceeded to beat 1ST quite convincingly despite icemonkey complaining that the PC was relatively slow and he couldn’t perform how he would’ve liked to. A hour later was the finals which OC turned into quite a spectacle. OC hosted the finals on a projector and jimz0r shoutcasted the match, this really made it just that more enjoyable. IceMunki had installed cod4 on a friends pc and was ready to play the final. The first map to be played was Crash, miNt were defending first. Both teams fought it out round for round and at the half the score was 7-5 to Brazen. IceMunki again had to sacrifice by playing with only 50fps, making him largely ineffective the whole map, Brazen played well taking the map 13-6. After noticing the problems IceMunki was having, A*P nworb offered his pc up, the only problem being TS didn’t work, and IceMunki had to sit quite a distance away from the rest of the team. The next map to be played was Crossfire, and with IceMunki’s vital role on the map the team looked to be at a disadvantage. miNt  started off strongly having a 3-1 lead in the early stages, soon after Stripe and r0adrunner, reading miNt ’s defense, broke through their lines crippling miNt  round after round. The strong attacks by these two players meant that the miNt would go on to lose the map 13-4, and place second in the first installment of the OC/Frontosa COD4 LAN competition.

All in all it was a weekend full of fun, which was enjoyed by all, and miNt would like to congratulate Brazen for their deserved win.

Recently we revealed news about Organised Chaos and the MSSA (it hurts to say this) working together. While we were wondering why OC would do this, they have decided to answer our questions.

Organised Chaos have said that the OGA is a section 21 company, and they have said that all future players for competitions will now have to be club members of the OGA. OC will now officially just be the infrastructure to host OGA events.

The OGA will allow players to take part in other competitions. The OGA will also be seeking sponsorship for their competitions so that they can award the winners a couple of prizes.

The organiser of Organised Chaos said that the OGA membership fees will not go to the MSSA, but the OGA does pay a small association fee to the MSSA. This means that both the OGA and MSSA will get money for doing nothing, as players will soon be forced to sign up under them.

Wait.

This means that players will now have to pay more to play games? Firstly you will pay your membership fee, and then the tournament fees? Awesome.

Organised Chaos have said that they would just like to be part of the ‘bigger picture’ when it comes to gaming, and they would like to have the chance to recommend players for national colours.

It was said that players can belong to both an MSSA team and/or the OGA, and they would not have to swap over to play in the OC competitions.

Due to major feedback from the OC and MSSA disaster partnership, OC will hold a meeting for gamers next week Wednesday to discuss the situation.

The meeting will be based around the structure of the OGA and its involvement with MSSA.

Dietmar Rheeder-Kleist, OC organiser said:

To all Competitive gamers and interested parties,

Given the current boycotting situation of the MSSA league and its associated clubs, OGA/OC in Cape Town would like to ave an open discussion with its constituents.

We will be holding this meeting at Frontosa’s offices in Montague Gardens, Cape Town. All gamers, role players and interested parties are welcome, and we’d like to request that team captains and persons who have previously obtained recognition please attend.

The meeting will be held at Frontosa Offices on Wednesday 3rd at 18:00 (6 PM) March 2009 in Montague Gardens Cape Town. They are located on the corner of Omuramba and Computer Road.

Proposed Agenda for this meeting is:

* Definition of OC / OGA relationship
* Goals of OGA
* Definititon of OGA / MSSA relationship
* Discussion about MSSA boycott

The boycott occurred when the MSSA tried to become too involved in gaming, and the Call of Duty 4 players did not like this, as a result most of the clans from online pretty much decided to not enter the tournaments.

Congratulations to Brazen for winning the first Organised Gamers’ Association (OGA) Frontosa Call of Duty 4 competition at Organised Chaos. Organised Chaos is currently the biggest on going lan in Cape Town.

The OC Lan organisers have announced that there will be more Cod 4 tournaments throughout the year, and there will also be a Grand Final.

Gamers will only be required to place in two of the four events to qualify for the finals, and all of the events will feature prizes, with the main event featuring R10 000 worth of prizes.

The recent Cod 4 competition saw miNt gaming and Brazen fight for 20GB of RAM, where the winners were Brazen.

This month’s OC lan also featured a DotA competition, but due to no other top clans for DotA entering into the competition, Bravado decided to rather just play online.

Sad news has now come, as the OC organisers have decided to become part of the MSSA [-virus]. This means that everyone that would like to compete in OC competitions would now have to be part of an MSSA club, or join the Organised Gamer’s Association (OGA) which is an MSSA club.

OC will be partnering with the MSSA to host Africon 09.

Why the OC organisers have decided to team up with the virus which is MSSA, we do not know.

The OC LAN is currently the top lan in Cape Town, how will they benefit from the MSSA? The affiliation with the MSSA might even scare people away from the OC LAN.

Lets hope that the OC makes the right decisions and does not take the trouble which the MSSA will eventually throw their way.

The *favourite* gaming association in SA, the MSSA, have announced that their leagues are finally underway. We are sad to announce that this years tournament will only have half the amount of games from the 2008 tournament.

Mind Sports South Africa have announced that there are 134 players registered for 2009, which means that the list has dropped by 94 players. These figures were meant to be announced on Sunday, but we’re thinking that the reason for the delay was because the MSSA couldn’t find a working mouse to double click on their players list.

MSSA seem to be losing players left, right and centre, things are not looking good for this association, and it is almost safe to say that with their power in the National Team Trails, etc, they could kill gaming in South Africa.

The MSSA have revealed that there will only be six games played online, and if we’re lucky, the other games might be available at LAN tournaments.

MSSA Regulations require a minimum of four teams in each team game, and eight individual players in each single player game for an online league to take place.

The 2009 MSSA season will consist of the following games:

Counter Strike 1.6 (PC)

DotA- Allstars (PC)

Quake 3 (PC)

Call of Duty 4 (PC)

Starcraft (PC)

TrackMania Nations Forever (PC)

MSSA’s DotA league will feature nine teams, while the CoD4 league will have seven teams, expect five teams in CS 1.6 and 12 players in the Quake 3 league.

You will find eight players in the Starcraft league and eight players in the TrackMania Nations Forever league.

In 2008 the MSSA’s online league had 13 DotA teams, 20 CoD4 teams and one CS 1.6 team.

Teams for the DotA league:

Bravado

kknP

Team Xploit

SynCidy

WITS A

WITS B

PBHS (Pretoria Boys High School) – A and B team.

Night Fox

Teams for the CoD4 league:

Cry-O-Genesis

ESWAT

SJC

Brazen

Hell was Full

Sutherland High School

WIDS COD

Teams for the Counter-Strike 1.6 league:

Cry-O-Genesis

Bravado

Eswat-eC

W.A.Ced

Zamalek

Quake 3 players:

Chickenball

Shenks

el-tORsO

Fomei

tYphus

MarZBarZ

Dark Chocobo

Mojo_JojoSK

Crawler

Darth-Hitler

GT

Coral-fairy

Starcraft Players:

Cent

krkaz

Greyscale

CaesarDay

bvd_russian

RIP

DR4G0N_M45T3R

The_Ish

Players for TrackMania:

Sh1nob1

Lisssa

kner515

dread

FacELesS

Skopsuil

Wolmaister

The_Ish

You will notice that Pantheon Gaming, miNt, tankh, Entropy, UBS, 6or9, BFB, along with a few other teams, are not taking part in the league. Major influences for not taking part in the league: the price of the event, along with a flight to Cape Town for a medal and a pat on the back.

Some teams have decided that they will never take part in MSSA leagues, and this is bad news for the league as they are losing top teams.

Can we once again really say that the MSSA has done their best?
Can we really say that the team that wins will be the best?

We really think that the MSSA should change their attitude and actually let people that understand gaming have some say in the matter.

Let us know what you think the comment section below.

Latest news from Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA), states that they have officially delayed the league due to technical difficulties.

The MSSA said that the rosters would go up on Sunday evening, but it seems like this just never happened (surprise!). The leagues are now delayed, thanks to “minor technical difficulties on the server”.

MSSA does it again. Win.

David Vannucci, MSSA league coordinator, said: “We’re having a problem with one of the mods on one of the games and as a result all the leagues are being delayed and will start together,”

The MSSA have also cut the amount of games in half, which means that the games played will now consist of Warcraft 3: DotA, Call of Duty 4, Counter Strike 1.6, Quake III, Starcraft and TrackMania Nations Forever.

There is still no word on how many players are playing these games, but the MSSA said that they will announce it soon. However, it was said that 12 clans did sign up, and many of them have entered multiple teams.

MSSA Regulations state that they need a minimum of four teams per team game, and eight individual players per single player game.

Does the MSSA actually know what they are doing, or have they just lost the entry forms? Let us know what you think in the comment section below.

Mind Sports South Africa (MSSA) are trying to work with the City of Cape Town to host the Africon 2009.

MSSA President, Colin Webster, has said that developments are still in early stages, but there are investigations of gaming becoming an official sport in Cape Town.

“The MSSA has to put together a bid to the Olympic Committee to host Africon 09. To do that, we need the support of a local council. Furthermore, we will then be putting in a bid to the International Wargames Federation (IWF),” he says.

Last year’s Africon 08 Tournament featured international teams, SK Gaming and ButtonBashers, who won both the DotA and CoD4 divisions. It is said that both teams are keen on coming down again for the tournament, especially if it is in Cape Town.

“In a recent telephonic conversation between Michael Groen (of the well known ButtonBashers clan) and Colin Webster, Michael expressed his interest in his clan attending the 2009 African Continental Championships to take on the official South African National Team, in both an official test match and in the championships itself,” the MSSA said in a statement.

“ButtonBashers are generally considered to be the premier CoD4 team, and are chomping at the bit to come to South Africa after reading, and hearing, of the South African hospitality that was extended to SK Gaming. Of course, final plans will only be able to be made once the MSSA’s official bid is accepted for the championship and financing is secured for such an event,” the MSSA went on to say.

MSSA are busy trying to pass a by-law which will state that a player may only participate at Africon ’09 if they have played in a MSSA LAN or online event.

So far the registrations for the local leagues are closed, and MSSA were not able to give the amount of people entered to anyone, as they will only confirm numbers this week.

Okay while we are still trying to figure out what the MSSA are trying to accomplish, the president of the organisation went on to say that they (MSSA) do not oppose other leagues running in the country, they just want them to function withing the MSSA framework.

For what reason though? Well, it seems as if the MSSA are trying to run everything, where AGASA are clearly doing a better job.
