You know, when we at eGamer make a mistake, we can just edit the article and it’s all hunky dory. We still proof-read our articles (some better than others) anyway. You’d imagine then that when clearing whatever text may appear on the box of a game there would be an army of people to check that all is kosher and then another army of quality control people to make sure that the first army wasn’t full of degenerates who couldn’t spot the mistakes.

How then did the above faux pa slip through? Resident Evil: Revelations for the 3DS has just been released and people who picked the game were having problems before they even got to the counter. As you can see, the spine of the box reads: “Resident Evil: Revelaitons”.

This pic was snapped by gaming journalist Dan Ackerman who writes for Spin and CNET. Game Informer called Capcom out on this tiny little microscopic error and got a rather interesting reply:

“It has come to our attention that there was a misspelling on the Resident Evil Revelations packaging. We apologize for the mistake, which will be corrected for subsequent productions of the game. We are working on a solution to provide affected customers with the correct packaging. Please visit Capcom-Unity for updates.”

Where’s Homer when you need a “d’oh”?

It’s been teased on and off but it’s always great when you finally get confirmation of something. Warner Bros. Interactive has announced Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes. In addition to Robin, Superman and Batman we’ll also get Wonder Woman and Green Lantern. Unforgettably, there’s no word yet about the inclusion of Flash or The Martian Man-Hunter.

The miniature guardians of Earth with painted-on expressions and 300-style abs will be teaming up to stop Lex Luthor and Joker from doing decidedly evil things to Gotham City.

The game will focus on the same co-op build & destroy gameplay that has characterised the series and made it so popular. The inclusion of all these characters could lend itself to a pretty interesting multiplayer component which developer Travelers’ Tales hasn’t implemented in any of their previous Lego games.

Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes will be coming to PS3, PC, Xbox 360, DS, Wii, 3DS and PS Vita this winter which coincides with, you guessed it, the release of The Dark Knight Rises.

This reeks of a movie cash-in but I have faith in Travelers’ Tales although I’ve never been a fan of mixing Batman with the Justice League. It should still be good fun irrespective.

Before you get too excited, this is going to be produced to co-incide with the release of Men In Black III in autumn next year. It’s being developed by Activision and despite being an obvious movie tie-in has been billed as an original title with “Hollywood production values”.

Behold, the official blurb:

True to the spirit of the franchise, the original title will feature action-packed, yet light-hearted gameplay mixed with edge-of-your-seat shooting excitement from the universe’s most elite peacekeeping force.

The films’ unique blend of action, humor, and eye-popping special effects will fuel the Men In Black’s gameplay experience. Utilizing the rich mythology of the Men In Black universe, the game’s original story will build on the history of the series to bring back familiar faces, while also introducing new foes. More details on gameplay features and characters will be revealed soon!

VP of licensing at Sony Pictures Entertainment Mark Caplan chimed in with: “With Activision bringing the Men In Black universe to life on next-gen consoles for the first time, the Men In Black video game will be both familiar to fans, an exciting beginning for the uninitiated, and revolutionary for the franchise.

Unfortunately, I was unable to find any trailers for MIB III but let’s hope it makes a return to the greatness of the first movie. The game on the other hand, will have to a fair amount to prove itself anything more than a shameless movie license cash-in.

The MIB game is set to release on most consoles, including handheld.

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from Spider-Man: Edge of Time, which is strange considering it releases in about 3 weeks in the US. Nonetheless, the latest news is that the new Ultimate Spider-Man will be a playable skin in Edge of Time.

If you haven’t heard by now, the Ultimate universe killed off Peter Parker but it’s not the real Peter Parker because he’s still going in the Amazing universe with his do-overs and deals with the devils. So, Parker’s replacement (but not the real Parker) was revealed to be a half Black/half Hispanic kid named Miles Morales. You see what they did there with the last name? He’s not just a Black Spider-Man because we already technically have that. And he’s certainly not just a Hispanic Spider-Man because well <del>then he’d be plain lazy and useless</del> we already have that too. In fact he’s one of the main characters of Edge of Time.

Players won’t actually play as Morales because people are only now finding out who he really is after the release of Ultimate Comics All-New Spider-Man #01 yesterday. Instead, you’ll just get to swing around in his duds which is rather ironic when you consider that Morales is first seen fighting crime in an imitation of Parker’s Spidey outfit and told it’s in bad taste.

Anyway, the suit’s pretty cool although the black just seems to be in bad taste when you consider ethnicity of the guy underneath. Why couldn’t they have made it white or something?

EA stepped up at their conference to talk about and showcase FIFA 12 and some of its new and exciting features. The game is being labelled as the “most authentic [...]

EA stepped up at their conference to talk about and showcase FIFA 12 and some of its new and exciting features. The game is being labelled as the “most authentic FIFA ever”, and it’s looking pretty exciting.

To begin with we were shown the first part of a new trinity of gameplay features, namely the “Tactical Defending” system, which is designed to make defending as skillful and meaningful as it is in the real world. Timing and tactics are key and positioning is now as important as the actual act of tackling.

This system goes hand in hand with the new “Precision Dribbling”, allowing players to “maintain control of the ball in close quarters”, and giving players a greater control of the ball and pace of the game, opening up new attacking possibilities.

However, the biggest gameplay innovation according to EA is the final part of the trinity, specifically their new “Player Impact Engine”, which has been in development for more than two years and allows the delivering of real world physicality to all interactions on the pitch. Players now take “dramatic falls, suffer true injuries, and maintain momentum to fight through tackles and challenges, and push and pull one another as they fight for the ball.”

A new social interaction system was also unveiled for FIFA 12, namely the EA Sports Football Club, which is about four big things and will be the heartbeat of FIFA. The first is a “Live Service”, which will be fresh and new all the time, and updated all year long, connecting players to the real world of football. Throughout the year the developers will be injecting challenges and story-lines that are taken right from the pitch’s biggest matches.

It will be a social service at its core, allowing fans to “Connect and Compete” with players around the world and allow players to have a deeper connection with their beloved clubs, creating “Persistence and Presence” across platforms. The system will be available at FIFA 12′s launch at no additional cost, and will connect you to your friends and show progression for all FIFA experiences in the future.

EA Sports Football Club works in that you choose your favourite team and are then instantly connected with millions of players around the world. Everything you do in the game will add to your experience points and level progression, and you will get to compete with your friends and track their progress via online leaderboards.

You’ll be able to take on challenges based on real world occurrences and match happenings. It was demonstrated by the EA spokesman, who chose Tottenham Hotspur as his club, that he could choose the challenge to change the result of Man City VS Tottenham which happened back on May 10, where Tottenham lost 1-0. By taking on this challenge and winning the match, he’d earn redemption and progress in his leaderboard. Furthermore, he’d be working together with other Spurs fans to push the team to the top of the virtual leaderboards through their triumphs.

Through the system you’ll be able to share your achievements and accomplishments and news, and keep track of friends and everything football.

That wrapped up FIFA 12′s demonstration, and more announcements, information and innovations will come throughout E3 and the year.

EA claims that its newly announced Need for Speed: The Run will offer “an edgier experience” than its predecessors. While that has yet to be seen, what is clear is that the game will amazing. Why? Because it will be using DICE’s (frickin’ awesome) Frostbite 2 Engine which is currently being used for Battlefield 3 and looks incredible even though the game is hardly in beta phase yet.

It is however, a street racing game (pause for huge groan) and if anything street racing is getting a bit long in the tooth although NFS: Hot Pursuit and Burnout Paradise from a few years ago are actually pretty good fun. According to EA, On The Run will have players “weave through dense urban centers, rocket down icy mountain passes and navigate narrow canyons at breakneck speeds, all the while evading a relentless police force prepared – and willing – to use lethal force to take you down”.

EA Games Label director Frank Gibeau said of the game, “Our second blockbuster in Need for Speed The Run was announced last week with a trailer that revealed another spectacular game in this globally recognised franchise.
Developed by the Black Box team in Vancouver and built on a proprietary game engine, Frostbite 2, Need for Speed The Run offers an edgier experience that takes players on an action-packed high-stakes race from San Francisco to New York.”

Watch the aforementioned debut trailer below:

Need for Speed: The Run has been earmarked for a November 2011 release on PC, PS3, Xbox 360, 3DS and Wii. I don’t know about you but I have mixed feelings about this game, sure it’ll look ridiculously insane but will it be any good to play with Black Box, who usually do NFS and had no involvement in Hot Pursuit, at the helm?

EA Sports’ Madden series has a huge following, something I will, for the life of me, never understand.

The latest in the series, the upcoming Madden NFL 12, has got fans all giddy in anticipation, and what better to add to that hype than a fresh, new gameplay trailer. One with actual gameplay in it, this time, not more of that random cutscene stuff that nobody cares about.

Madden NFL 12 itself has had a dark moment or two, what with the upcoming NFL season threatened by strike action and the developer’s choice of putting onto the cover, a relatively unknown player, something that has confounded most internet users.

Not that it will matter much once the game releases on only every platform that isn’t a PC, ie. the PSP, PS2, PS3, Wii, 3DS and Xbox360.

While I may not be a fan of the series, it is my job to bring excitement and bliss to those who are. So enjoy the trailer…

This was a triumph! I’m making a note here, huge success…

Valve’s brand-shiny-new puzzly-based adventure Portal 2 has entered the UK Top 40 in top spot. As if that was ever in any doubt, once the game dropped. Aperture Science, they do what they must, because they can.

Mortal Kombat’s fatally grand and gory reboot was beaten into second, with the week’s other big new entry, Operation Flashpoint: Red River, coming it at a decent sixth.

Sony’s shooter (which has so many fanboys that I ever knew existed) SOCOM Special Forces was left well out of anything even remotely close to the top, ending up at a very meagre 28th place. Not even making the top 40, High Voltage’s Wii-exclusive FPS ended up at 26th on the Wii-specific chart, even further emphasizing the lack of care that housewives have, for anything that isn’t Wii Fit.

Zumba Fitness, twice a chart-topper, dropped down to fourth place as Call of Duty: Black Ops exploded (what, bad pun?) back up to third.

Pokemon Black seems to be edging out Pokemon White, having dropped down to eleventh and twelfth, respectively. And Dragon Age II aka my favourite game in the history of ever, is in at seventeenth, slowly and steadily rising to power.

Shift II: Unleashed seems to have taken it down a gear (loving these) dropping from tenth to nineteenth, with Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood succumbing to Borgia influence at twenty, down from fourteen.

LEGO Star Wars broke down a little, into fifth, with FIFA 11 and Crysis 2 filling out seventh and eighth, respectively. Maximum mediocrity…

The previously mentioned housewives’ favourite’s latest entry, Wii Fit Plus, stretched its way back up the charts and into ninth position, courtesy the massive new marketing campaign that Nintendo have undergone, some seventy eight weeks after its release.

THQ’s Homefront finishes up the top ten, battling off the horde of new releases and invading KPA.

Cake, for everyone!

Although it has been made abundantly clear that Batman Arkham City will not feature any form of multiplayer, Rocksteady is still toying with the basic idea.

“We considered it pretty briefly,” Rocksteady marketing game manager Dax Ginn told CVG but the idea was quickly dropped because it would have limited productivity and hampered other facets of the game.

“Also it didn’t really make a lot of sense for a game that is so single character-centric.”

Despite this rather final statement, Ginn didn’t entirely dismiss the idea of a Batman game with multiplayer so long as Rocksteady is involved: “I can totally see that multiplayer is a super popular thing and online playability seems to be growing and something that people desire. So I can’t say what’s going to happen down the track but for Arkham City we’re focused on the single-player experience.”

Of course, Ginn also said last month that adding a multiplayer component to Arkham City would have effectively resulted in two average games rather than one great one. Maybe we’ll see something akin to a Batman & Robin partnership once Rocksteady can lock down the logistics/details and make a multiplayer work while still focusing on delivering a great single-player experience.

That’s not much of a shocker really, but the interesting part is whether both handhelds will be out and swinging by the time FIFA 12 is actually released.

Either way, the story here is that, if you can trust the Linkedin profile of an EA employee, then FIFA 12 may just be coming to Sony’s NGP and Nintendo’s 3DS in addition to all its other platforms.

EA software engineer José Galera Pérez recently posted in his Linkedin profile, under the experience section, that he is right now working on “FIFA12 (X360, PS3, PS2, PSP, PSP2, PC, Wii, NDS, N3DS), European and Asian SKU.”

There you have it.

Oh, and seeing as how EA Sports recently announced that they will be revealing FIFA 12 next month, we’ll just have to wait until then to see what’s cracking with the NGP and 3DS.

The first gameplay footage and screenshots for Sega and Next Level Games’ Captain America: Super Soldier have been released.

The game is based on the upcoming film Captain America: The First Avenger, and it will be a third person action game.

I’m game for another good super hero game, but it being a movie tie-in instantly gets me doubting.

Judging by the trailer and screenshots, the graphics look underpar and the combat reminds one of Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Either way, check out the gameplay trailer and screenshots below.

The Wii had a virtual console, yes, but Nintendo themselves seemed to forget that they put it there. That’s not the case with the 3DS. The company revealed at its 2010 press conference that it plans to keep the 3DS’s virtual console alive with users being able to download both Game Boy and Game Boy Colour games.

No mention was made of pricing or which games will be available for download but expect Metroid, Super Mario, Kirby, Zelda and other usual suspects to be made available.

FIFA 11 is expected to be mind-blowingly astounding simply because of the pedigree that the series has garnered of late and if early reviews are anything to go by, EA has certainly delivered.

The game scored 95% from IGN UK which praised its refinement and polish. A 9.7 from CVG, 94% from GameMaster which called it “the best football game ever,” and saying that it’s “got the looks, the sounds, the depth and plays like a dream”. OPM gave it a perfect 10, calling it “footballing perfection” with “very few flaws.”

Check out the eGamer review of FIFA 11 which will be up next week.

Those of you who have watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine will have a decent idea of who Deadpool is and what he is capable of. For those who don’t, listen up.

Deadpool, also known as Wade Wilson, is a mercenary and essentially supposed to be the perfect soldier with the healing abilities of Wolverine, crazy strength and a cartoonish perosna. He is famed for his wisecracks and wit as well as an ardent hate for mutants.

He will be one of the 13 bosses in Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions and will be waiting for you at the end of a very special level in the Ultimate Universe. The level takes place on an oil rig that has been converted into the set of a reality TV game show with obstacles and Deadpool taunting Spidey over loudspeakers. This is supposed to create what the developers call “witty banter” between the two which is supposed to be more than the usual slew of corny one-liners that get thrown around.

“One of the most entertaining aspects of Spider-Man is his sense of humor. In asking ourselves what we could do to really bring out this key characteristic, we came up with the idea of recruiting Deadpool as one of the villains. This allowed us to create witty banter that went both ways, rather than always coming only from Spider-Man.

“We wanted the setting for the level to play into this as well, so to make sure Deadpool’s personality was always in the spotlight we made the entire level a reality TV game show. It takes place on an oil rig that has been converted into a deadly obstacle course covered with TV screens and loudspeakers that Deadpool uses to constantly taunt Spidey. By the end of the level, Spider-Man has really learned why he’s called ‘The Merc with a Mouth!’”

Unfortunately, the Merc with a Mouth 9as he is also known) will be voiced by none other than everybody’s most heard but least-loved voice actor, Nolan North. There seriously is no game that he can keep is lips off of ( I meant for that to sound that way) and while he may be a good choice with his experience as Nathan Drake from Uncharted, that literally is the only role he can fill. That of the smug white guy. He doesn’t fit in anywhere else.

I got carried away with the title there, sorry. The real deal is that Bizarre Creations’ Nick Davies believes that the new and upcoming James Bond title, 007: Blood Stone, will provide gamers with “everything a Bond fan’s going to want to see” in a Bond title.

Speaking with the peeps over at CVG, Davies brushed off concerns and suggestions that the developers have a challenging road ahead if they want to not be overshadowed by the upcoming Wii title 007: GoldenEye

“I think for us, you want to be asking the same thing to Eurocom: are they worried about being in our shadow?” offered Davies.

“We are giving the big broad Bond experience, I think we’re giving everything a Bond fan’s going to want to see in one game.”

Nonetheless, Davies tipped his hat to Eurocom’s efforts, adding, “Their game’s fantastic and I think it’ll do really well.”

“I think the two games are going out at the same time, they are going for slightly different audiences: Obviously the Wii version has got its audience, the 360, PS3, PC have got their own so I think they’re two very different games.”

“We’ll just concentrate on ours, we think we’ve got a really good package, we think we’ve got everything the players want to see and want to do as James Bond. So we think it stands alone as a big deal,” he added.

The game will be released on November 2, 2010 on PC, PS3, Xbox360 and DS.

It’s always amazing when a well-known celebrity agrees to do some work in the gaming industry, whether it be marketing or voice-acting or just about anything, people make a big deal about it.

Now for those of you who don’t know him, Neil Patrick Harris (better known as Barney Stinson) has been famous since the age of about 12 when he starred in the show Doogie Howser M.D. He then went on to do a whole lot of other shows and even some films (hey, it’s a summary okay) and has also been nominated for a raft of awards although he has only actually won a handful of those.

Now consider how epically huge it is for Harris, who is currently one of the most-liked TV characters, to be the voice behind one of the most-loved comic superheroes of all time. Yes, Harris will be playing the part of the original Amazing Spider-Man in the upcoming Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions. He will be working alongside the likes of Josh Keaton (Ultimate Spider-Man), Christopher Daniel Barnes (Noir Spider-Man) and Dan Gilvezan (Spider-Man 2099).

All of the above have actually already voiced the webslinger in animated TV series’, so they know what they’re doing. A guest appearance will also be made by Spider-Man creator Stan Lee who will be taking his usual narrative role.

There really is something poetic about Spider-Man being voiced by a homosexual individual, especially since the Amazing Spider-Man is one of the more high-pitched ones where voice is concerned.

Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions releases on September 7 for DS, Wii, PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. The way things are shaping up, this game is gonna be legen, wait for it…dary!

It appears as if everybody’s favourite bounty hunter, Boba Fett, will make a cameo appearance in Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II.

While Fett will not be a playable character in any way, shape or form, he will be quite integral to the plot of Force Unleashed II. According to CVG who recently attended a preview of the game in London, Fett’s role will be as follows.

Following the escape of a Starkiller clone , or what is rumoured to not actually be a Starkiller clone, Vader calls Boba Fett in and orders the bounty hunter to capture Juno, the protagonist’s love interest from the first game. Vader affectionately refers to her as “the women”.

Predictably, this will probably allow the game to be drawn out for at least 2 more hours than it otherwise would have but will give at least some sort of sub-plot to the whole revenge, fight for a cause thing that Starkiller seems to be on in Force Unleashed II.

Sega has revealed that it will be developing and publishing a Thor video game to tie in with Marvel’s upcoming Thor movie.

“Thor: The Video Game!” said in a booming voice from above! Will be a third-person adventure game with a narrative written by comic book author Matt Fraction.

Players will be able to beat down enemies using Thor’s legendary hammer Mjolnir and command the powers of the storm: wind, thunder and lightning. We wonder if mead will be involved?

The game is scheduled for release on the PS3, 360, Wii, DS and PSP in summer 2011.

“Oh Dear” because the majority of movie-to-game, games and game-to-movie, movies end up failing…and badly.

Marvel’s movies have been of high quality recently – hopefully its licensed movie games are given the same treatment.

Like fishing, hate the lake? Well, Activision might have something just for you — Rapala Pro Bass Fishing. And yes, you guessed it — it’s a fishing title for 360, PS2/3, PSP, Wii, and DS.

For the first time ever, the PS3 and 360 versions will be available with a Rapala Rod & Reed controller. Naturally, Wii owners will be able to purchase a Rapala Rod & Reel peripheral as well. The controls will feature full motion control, where players will be able to cast, reel, and do other things which you need to do when fishing.

The game will be set up in a professional tournament structure, and it offers everything you’d find at a tournament. This means, you’ll be fishing in some of the top freshwater lakes in North America.

“Pro tournament action is all about the intensity and adrenaline of live fishing competition,” said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “Rapala Pro Bass Fishing captures every detail from the starting line to the championship trophy presentation.”

Game modes include simultaneous 2-player mode, challenge friend contests, solo-fishing and tournaments.

On the Kojima Productions website, we could see a block divided into three parts, and occupying the first two are Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and Metal Gear Solid: Rising respectively. Now, the veil has been lifted on the third block.

The game has been revealed to be Metal Gear Solid 3D: Snake Eater “The Naked Sample” – which looks to be a remake of one of the best Metal Gear Solid games of all time for the new Nintendo 3DS.

Scribblenauts was an awesome game and despite its very picky inventory – if you wanted a big rock, you had to say boulder or something, you couldn’t just say big rock – the inventory was still immensely huge and allowed for a wide range of creative solutions to the many puzzles. You could spawn anything ranging from a janitor to Death to a simple ladder.

The sequel to the game, Super-Scribblenauts promises to be even bigger and more creative. The new game will have 120 levels and no less than 800 updated objects. Big news though is that the game will be able to incorporate adjectives as well. So, if you don’t want just any janitor, you can specify that you want a Mexican janitor or say, something like a surfer werewolf. The possibilities are endless.

There are a total of four different dimensions to play through in the upcoming Spider-man Shattered Dimensions. Thus far, the Noir and Ultimate universes have already been revealed but is the futuristic 2099 universe the third?
These four screenshots were mysteriously leaked onto the internet, no doubt by some overzealous individual because Activision was planning to have a whole big song and dance around the reveal of the third dimension. Nonetheless, here they are looking pretty authentic.

While the Ultimate universe is slightly more contemporary and familiar in terms of its characters and themes, the Noir universe however, is set way back in pre-WWII, Great Depression times and as such is very dark and gritty. With this in mind, it is not inconceivable for one of the other dimensions to be set in the future. The 2099 universe is set way in the future (2099 to be exact) and features many familiar, albeit slightly revised characters, Ghost Rider for example is an AI inside a skull-headed mech. Spider-Man himself is pretty different in this universe as well, with Miguel O’Hara donning the Webslinger’s suit rather than Peter Parker. In keeping with some sort of continuity and timeline, O’Hara is influenced by the long-dead Parker.

If this is in fact the third dimension then the game is certainly shaping up to be something special with past, present, future and who knows what other kind of Spider-Man’s all in the mix. Oh, did I mention that the 2099 universe has really tall buildings, as you can see in one the screenshots. Perfect for thrill-seeking acrobatic webslinging.

A new trailer has been released for Spider-Man Shattered Dimensions and I must say that things are actually looking promising. The trailer details the three villains that you will encounter in both the Noir and Ultimate universes.

You will see very familiar looking versions of Hammerhead and Kraven but may be a little off-set by Goblin.

You see, the Goblin in this game is not the Green Goblin that you know from Spider-Man canon. This Goblin exists in the Noir dimension and as such, does not have any of the hi-tech weapons and more specifically, hoverboard that we’re all used to.

Instead, the serum has made him into some sort of brutish heathen. Everybody else seems pretty much par for the course.

Today, Electronic Arts and Warner Bros. Interactive have announced that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the video game, will be getting the movie treatment, meaning that it will be split into two separate games.

The Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 video game will be released “this fall”, which is around October/November for us, on PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, and mobile devices.

The press release said that since the all of the action is taking place outside of Hogwarts for the first time, Part 1 will be “a shift in tone” for the Harry Potter games.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1″ represents a shift in tone for the “Harry Potter” games. On the run with a horde of merciless enemies on their tail, players will find themselves in unknown territory, far from the safety of the school grounds, fighting for survival at every turn.

“The final ‘Harry Potter’ adventure has given us the opportunity to make a darker and more action-oriented game than we have before,” says Jonathan Bunney, VP, Head of Production at EA Bright Light. “We believe we are creating a ‘Harry Potter’ game that the HD console gaming generation will appreciate and enjoy. We have built new technology specifically to allow us to prove that magic is a truly potent force and, in this game, players will need to use all their skills if they want to survive.”

“We have enjoyed a tremendous partnership with EA in collaborating on the ‘Harry Potter’ video games,” said David Heyman, Producer of the “Harry Potter” films series. “Over the years, the games have grown ever closer to the films in their art direction and in their spirit so it is exciting to know that the ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1′ video game will capture the action and suspense of the upcoming film.”

It goes on to say that Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 video game is “packed from start to finish with action and combat. Players will be on the run, fighting for survival on a desperate and dangerous quest to locate and destroy Voldemort’s Horcruxes, engaging with Death Eaters and Snatchers in epic battle sequences at every turn. To amplify the action, players will encounter ferocious creatures from the previous films in addition to the adversaries Harry faces in the seventh film. They will need to muster their most powerful magic against relentless assaults from all sides. There are no more lessons, no more training. This time the danger is real. It’s time for players to fight for their lives.”

Furthermore: “A new game engine built specifically to leverage the technology of HD consoles ensures high definition graphics and intense combat gameplay that will immerse players in the action like never before. Under development by EA Bright Light Studio, “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1″ and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2″ are being developed for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, Nintendo DS, Windows PC, and mobile devices.”

So it looks like the next two Harry Potter games will be all about action then, hmm? Third person shooters by the looks of things.

I recently got the chance to play the highly acclaimed DS game, Scribblenauts, and was blown away by the creativity and freedom that it boasted – I could call on the powers of God, Death and a janitor at will, along with about 500 other things. I then thought to myself: There should really be a sequel to this. A sequel with better graphics and a bigger pool of items to draw from.

Now Warner Bros Interactive Entertainment have announced a sequel and I am overjoyed. Titled Super Scribblenauts, I truly hope that the name is an indication of good things. We’ll just have to wait and see but it is doubtful that WBIE will have anything to show at E3.

Super Scribblenauts has been earmarked for a Spring 2010 release.

Lucas Arts’ Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II has been given the official release date of October 26. This news was revealed to us via the Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II Facebook page, and it will be when the game releases on PlayStation 3, Xbox360, PSP, Wii and DS. The Facebook post briefly reads:

“May The Fourth be with you, since it will be Unleashed Oct 26th, 2010!”

For those who don’t get the pun, and are shaking their heads thinking to replace “fourth” with “force”, the idea is that today is the 4th of May, hence “May The Fourth” – it’s the date that the official release date was unveiled. Isn’t that just so *cough* cool?

That’s it then, the 26th of October 2010 is when Force Unleashed II will be released. We’ll hear more about it at E3.

April was a bit of a wobbly gaming month, I mean, due to the volcano we received some delays on games we were planning to get our hands on last week, like Dead to Rights: Retribution and FIFA 1010 World Cup: South Africa. Their new release dates were set for the 30th of April, which delayed our schedule a bit. Then there was the case of our most anticipated title, Super Street Fighter IV, receiving a delay to the 7th of May, despite the rest of the world getting to enjoy it in April. Nevertheless, it’s a new month with new games, so let’s check out what May has to offer.

Just a special note, we’ve made some updates to the eGamer site which will make the game releases article much more detailed and enjoyable to go through. All you have to do is browse through the pages, as each game now has its own page.

Note: The games listed here are not all games being released in May, but rather the more noticeable ones.

We have no idea how valid or real this list is but it has been making it’s rounds on Twitter.

What seems to be certain from that list to appear at this years E3 is the following:

Killzone 3 (This will be one really sick announcement)
LBP2 (Curious to see the successor to the first game and how it turns out)
Dead Space 2 (The space-horror game that everyone sits with baited breath anticipating)
Guitar Hero 6 (Well this is just another GH but really wonder how well it will be received)

Some things that are likely to appear at E3
Call of Duty: MMO (the Sledgehammer project, perhaps. Since the Vietnam one is out soon.)
Mass Effect 3 ( This is a bit sudden but I guess it is just an announcement and not a release date.)
MotorStorm 3 (Not much too say about this.)
A slight possibility at E3:
Bad Company 3 (given BC2′s success, it is similar to the Mass Effect 3 announcement.)
Road Rash HD ( I would love to see this if it is the same one I used to play as a child)

And lastly the stunners:
Fahrenheit 2 (Successor to Fahrenheit something I thought that would not come with the release of Heavy Rain.)
God of War 3: Afterfall (I guess this was partially inevitable that someone would decide to make money.)
Omikuden (Only cause no one has heard of it before).

I just hope that this list is true and that we get too see these titles at E3 this year.

March definitely turned out to be one hell of a month, with many awesome and big-name games being released. Some of the more noticeable ones included the fantastically epic God of War III and excellent Battlefield: Bad Company 2, with Final Fantasy XIII following close behind. We’ve now entered the month of April which, while not nearly as explosive as March, certainly has some potentially good titles in store for us.

Note: The games listed here are not all games being released in April, but rather the more noticeable ones.
Note: eGamer’s MA (most anticipated) title for the month is the last game in the article.

eGamer’s MA titles for April 2010

Our most anticipated title for April 2010 is none other than Super Street Fighter IV. With the original Street Fighter IV turning out to be one of the best fighting games I’ve played in recent history, I seriously can’t wait to get my hands on the expansion sequel, especially since it has got ten additional characters and gameplay tweaks with a few extras thrown in. A South African release date is proving troublesome to get for this game, but considering that it’s releasing on the 30th of April 2010 in Europe, we can expect to see the game around the same time here. Considering that Street Fighter IV received a “Perfect” rating in my review of it back in March of 2009, I’m all the more excited to see if Super Street Fighter IV can best it. We’ll get to see that next month, along with a full review if possible.

Name: Super Street Fighter IV
Platforms: PS3, Xbox360
Genre: Fighter
Worldwide Release Date: 27-30 April 2010
Local (SA) Release Date: 27-30 April 2010 (expected, but still TBC)
Prices (approximately)
PS3 – TBC
360 – TBC
————————————————————————————————————–

I guess that wraps up April. There’s a lot less games being released this month in comparison to Monster March, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t some great games incoming. So far 2010 has proven to be a great year for gaming, and we hope that it stays that way. You know the drill, check back next month on the first day for a full list of its game releases.

Ever since Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham Asylum was released, a game which reminded us just how awesome a proper comic book super hero game could be, we’ve been waiting for the next hero to gear up and take on the very same challenge. This year, it looks like we have both Transformers: War for Cybertron as well as the newly debuted Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions to carry on what Rocksteady started – and will be continuing with Batman: Arkham Asylum 2.

We have high hopes for both games, but the primary focus for now is Spider-Man, as quite a bit of information has been given out on the game. Activision’s upcoming Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions will take you through four different dimensions – or rather four different Marvel universes – as Peter Parker, who is on a quest to re-obtain an artifact called the Tablet of Order and Chaos, which is the cause of the four-way split in reality due to it being broken into, you guessed it, four pieces. As you might also gather, this artifact is what maintains balance in reality. The game’s story is being written by The Amazing Spider-Man comic writer Dan Slott.

Two out of four realities have been revealed, those being the “amazing” and “noir” realities, both of which are named after comics (The Depression era Spider-Man: Noir and The Amazing Spider-Man). The noir reality, or dimension, is a gritty, black, depressing era in the life of Spider-Man, while the amazing reality is the more modern and down-to-earth Spider-Man. The debut trailer of the game, which you can view below, shows the key differences between the two revealed realities, noir and amazing. So you’ll be seeing four different Spider-Mans in this game, two of which have been revealed.

Activision said that the two remaining realities would be revealed on the Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions official website. In the trailer, we saw the noir and amazing realities and Spider-Mans as well as two of the villains, widely known Kraven the Hunter and Hammerhead.

The top selling Lego platformer series turns the Harry Potter world into bricks and round headed mini figurines for your virtual spell casting delight. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1–4, as the title implies, rounds up the first four books, Philosopher’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban and Goblet of Fire, into a puzzle solving platformer.

Similar to most Lego themed titles, Lego Harry Potter will focus on collecting and exploring but with a magical twist, including the Wingardium Leviosa spell that will lift and build Lego bricks to solve puzzles. The little Lego men you control will have to attend classes to learn spells, mix potions and ride broomsticks in a free roaming castle world that expands every year with more areas and secrets.

“Hogwarts is the biggest, richest, detailed and most all encompassing environment in LEGO we’ve ever created. You discover its size over the course of four years, so it’s not immediately overwhelming – but you get a sense as we go that there’s much more around to explore than is immediately accessible” Said Jonathan Smith Traveller’s Tales head of production.

With over 140 playable characters (I can’t even remember so many characters in the HP books), the experience promises to be diverse and customisable as the most distinct characters have different abilities and skill levels. So Harry will shoot jinxes while whizzing past on his broomstick and Hermione casts the strongest spells. Ron can use Scabbers to crawl into otherwise unreachable areas and Fang digs out items.

Players include: Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, Hermione Granger, Hagrid, Dumbledore, Sirius Black, Griphook the goblin, Draco Malfoy, Remus Lupin, Dobby, Buckbeak and centaurs. “What’s radically different is that you have characters who, over four years, go from not being very powerful to becoming incredibly powerful,” said Smith. The characters progress by attending classes and in turn the castle grounds expand with areas that are unlocked with newly earned spells. At the start of the game Harry is more likely to turn himself into a frog than create a successful potion.

Co-op game play is another feature that adds value to the game as another player can drop into a game at anytime. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1–4 hits the shelf in May this year and will feature on Windows, Nintendo DS, Wii, PlayStation 3, PSP and Xbox 360.
