A new trailer for I Am Alive has been released, and it focuses entirely on the importance of climbing in the game. It’s only about a minute in length, so don’t expect to see a whole lot.

In fact this trailer doesn’t really make the game look all that interesting. Not like the last one, which was pretty awesome. Still, it’s cool to see more of this exciting downloadable game.

I Am Alive will be out on Xbox Live on March 7, with a PlayStation Network date still to be announced.

So Mortal Kombat is one of the latest high profile titles to be confirmed for Vita alongside names such as BioShock, Monster Hunter and Uncharted (which was out on launch). It sounds like it will be great and NetherRealms’ pledge to make full use of the Vita’s touch functionality should differentiate the experience somewhat.

Here’s a good 100 seconds of gameplay action. It’s cam but decent quality and the Vita’s amazing AMOLED screen makes everything perfectly visible. The game looks like good fun but the wiping blood off the screen thing is almost definitely too gimmicky for its own good. Did we mention that the game will run at a silky 60fps?

The launch trailer for Big Huge Games’ highly anticipated action RPG, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, has recently been released by EA and 38 Studios.

If you’re interested, you can check it out above. As for the actual game, it will be released on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox360 on February 10 in Europe and here in South Africa.

Square Enix has very recently unveiled the launch trailer for Final Fantasy XIII-2, which released yesterday in North America, and is due to arrive on February 3 in Europe and here in South Africa.

The trailer isn’t that long and doesn’t show much, but it’s flashy and has pretty cool music, so I guess it’s worth taking a look at if you’re looking forward to the game. Check it out up top.

There are pre-order bonuses and then there’s Radical Entertainment’s idea of a pre-order bonus. Those who put their name down for Prototype 2 before the game releases will get what’s called the Radnet Edition at no extra cost. It’s a growing trend amongst developers and publishers but usually amounts to little more than an extra weapon or multiplayer skin and occasionally even an artbook. However, this one’s a bit different.

Those who get it will get a one-time use code that opens them up to 55 pieces of varied additional content. These range from bonus mutations and challenges, to Avatar items (Xbox 360)/ animated themes (PS3) and behind-the-scenes videos and more. The additional content will be doled out over 7 weeks from April 24 when the game releases to June 7. There will also be weekly themed rewards which can be won by achieving a bronze medal or higher and a minimum threshold score in that week’s challenges; those who participate in every week’s challenges will win what Activision has dubbed “the ultimate shape-shifting prize,” which will be unveiled in March.

A new Hero’s Guide trailer for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning has been released, showing off more of the large open world. It’s pretty intriguing to watch if you’re looking forward to this game.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning will release on PC, PS3 and Xbox360 on February 10 in Europe and South Africa. While it may be a highly anticipated title, it has been met with a little bit of controversy recently, because of the somewhat buggy demo and the news that the game will have an online pass for the unique Mass Effect armour as well as an entire quest-line that contains seven missions.

Time will tell how this game performs, but for now be sure to read up on our hands-on preview if you haven’t already. You can also enter our competition to stand a chance of winning the game.

EA has earmarked its FIFA Street reboot for a March 16 release on PS3 and Xbox 360 and I’m frankly excited because the game looks honestly good. It will use FIFA 12′s respective engines, feature more OTT skills than ever before and allow players to select their favourite clubs for five-a-side football. Can you imagine the intensity of a five-a-side Classico with no ref to whine to?

The game will also feature something called Street Network. It will be a lot like NFS’s Autolog but with balls instead of gearsticks. I’m not exactly sure why I said that, must be the heat.

Anyway, there’s a new trailer, watch it.

Capcom is at last looking set to give us some details on Dragon’s Dogma, which is a high-budget action RPG that hasn’t really seen much sunlight since its announcement last year. In fact, it wouldn’t really be a far-fetched statement to say that no one really knows what this game is about due to all the secrecy.

Either way, Capcom Unity has promised “a plethora of very exciting new details” from this coming Tuesday onwards, with the main attraction being a complete story trailer that will be posted on the game’s Facebook page. To hype up the trailer, Capcom has released a tiny teaser for the full trailer. Trailerception? Or something equally lame. The teaser barely shows anything though.

Dragon’s Dogma will release on PlayStation 3 and Xbox360 on May 1 in Europe and South Africa. The game will be out in March though in North America.

Yesterday we reported that Insomniac was done with the Resistance franchise and while many took it as “there will never be another Resistance, ever”, some of you were keen enough to point that there’s another studio currently working on the Resistance title for Vita so they’ll probably take up the mantle and right you were. Congrats, be sure to collect your celebratory glass of bubbly and Noddy badge on the way out.

So while Insomniac has done all that it wanted to with Resistance and taken the series as far as it planned, Sony isn’t quite done with it and has thus handed the reigns over to Nihilistic which is currently working on the Vita title, Resistance: Burning Skies.

Insomniac CEO Ted Price released a video message to clear things up and reassure fans about the series’ future.

“It doesn’t mean the Resistance franchise isn’t continuing,” he assured fans.

“It’s already in the capable hands of Nihilistic and with Sony’s shepherding it will continue to live on and expand. We’re excited, as fanboys, to see where it goes.”

Price also dealt with the big question mark hanging over the studio’s decision to ditch Resistance.

“A question we’ve gotten a lot through the forums and emails is ‘why?’ Well, we believe Resistance has reached the logical conclusion in terms of the story we wanted to tell,” he said.

Insomniac is currently working on four-player co-op title, Overstrike which we’ve seen next to nothing of although it will release for both PS3 and Xbox 360. The studio has even launched a casual and social division called Insomniac Click.

“[We] wish them the best of success on their new project Overstrike,” a Sony representative said.

“Although we have made no announcements on future products we do still have a working relationship with Insomniac.”

I think Insomniac was smart to move away from Resistance. They planned three main releases and stuck to that and now it’s time for someone else’s take on the series. It’d be great to see what else Insomniac can come up with.

Anyways, there’s a new trailer for The Darkness II and it’s full of the gory dismemberment we’ve come to relish. It’s only 30 seconds but it is sweet.

The Darkness II will be tearing up a PC, PS3 or Xbox 360 near you on February 10.

So Microsoft made a little 2 minute short to promote the release of Star Wars for Kinect and had the humility to call it “hilarious” themselves.

Judge for yourself whether this spoof of the iconic lightsaber duel between Vader and Obi Wan in Episode IV is any good. You may also recognise the dude in the bathrobe but I’m not saying who he is.

The game is set for an autumn release and will give you the power to “unleash your inner Jedi – with no controller in the way” across single and co-op, competitive and duel modes.

Doesn’t it just sound fantastic in every conceivable way?

So there’s now a launch trailer for The Darkness II and it’s all pretty and CG. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a nice trailer but what caught me out is the background music provided by Nine Inch Nails. Specifically Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails since moments before watching the trailer I was listening to his version of Immigrant Song used in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. It’s a great track from an excellent soundtrack from a very good movie.

Anyway, I’m babbling so watch the trailer while I get myself checked for rabies. Normal service will resume shortly.

The Darkness II is out in all its gloom on February 10 for PS3, PC and Xbox 360.

No, we’re not talking about that period of time between each Assassin’s Creed game when Ezio has a pose off with his reflection, we’re talking fisticuffs. Well the answer, courtesy of Captain Obvious, is of course Ezio.

So what we actually have is a trailer for Boob, er… I mean SoulCalibur V which showcases Ezio as the guest character in the game. Besides bashing his own brains in, he also tussles with Nightmare, Raphael, Viola, Mitsurugi, and Hilde.

His fighting style is a little different to what you’re used to seeing and blue-lightning will occasionally appear around him but remain calm and look at some of the cool moves players will be able to pull off with him.

That said, the game itself doesn’t look too bad and there aren’t nearly as many genetically-enhanced boobs being shoved in your face as you’d think (or want, if you’re into that sort of thing). Although Namco might have had the good sense to leave that aspect of the game out of the media for now.

Like it or not, SoulCalibur V is out on February 3 for PS3 and Xbox 360.

A few days ago we told you about Deadlight, the first title from Spanish indie developer Tequila Works. The game sounds like something worth paying attention to and if the screenshots are anything to go by, it also looks surprisingly high quality for an indie title which is in line with the A-list of developers that the studio has accumulated.

It might not be the gameplay that we’d all love to see but there is a teaser trailer out now for Deadlight and it definitely has me curious to see what this game is all about. Check it out.

Deadlight is due out on XBLA mid-2012.

It’s Skyrim but all the dragons have been replaced by My Little Ponies. Best. Mod. Ever.

Imagine if shouting at the dragon ponies made them hide in a corner and cry. It would be amazing. Watch these videos and your life will be complete.

Did I mention that despite the cuteness, they still breathe fire and all the rest. Allow me to reiterate. Best. Mod. Ever.

So the demo for The Darkness II goes live on January 25 but what if you don’t want to wait that long or can’t be bothered to download it? That’s what gameplay videos are for, my friends.

Behold, the demo in its 27 minute entirety split over two videos. There’s more tentacle action than in Cavie’s favourite hentai and enough violence and gore to make Tarantino a happy panda. There’s even a little imp-like Darkling that helps you out along with the compulsion to feed on your enemies’ hearts.

It looks pretty damn cool from what you see in the demo but I really hope the kill animations become more varied and the controls aren’t as clunky and erratic as they look. That said the visual style is very intriguing and grows on you by around minute 18.

The Darkness II is out in full for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 on February 10.

BioWare has said that Commander Shepard will be a far more human character in Mass Effect 3 with the writing taking us deeper into who Shepard is and what’s going on with him on an emotional level.

Mass Effect 3 lead writer Mac Walters said in the latest issue of BioWare Pulse (check it out above) that the team wanted to take “that next step” with the storytelling in ME3 to further immerse the player and improve the game.

“One of the things we wanted to do in Mass Effect 3 was deepen Shepard as a character, so you really get to express what your Shepard is feeling and going through, throughout the war,” said Mac Walters, lead writer on the Mass Effect franchise.

“We wanted to take that next step with the story telling. Yeah, it’s a war, yeah it’s got giant robots we get to shoot in the face, but there is a human side to the story. You are role-playing, and you are role-playing as a human. Why shouldn’t that human have an emotional component throughout the game?”

Obviously with this being the third in the series, Mass Effect 3 is bigger than its predecessors and Walters says that the writing reflects that.

“The emotion, and depth of writing that we have in there, has also gone up another level,” he continued. “When a video game can make you feel something but also be fun and entertaining, then I think we’ve done our jobs.”

Mass Effect 3 is out in March and should be amazing by all indications.

If there’s one thing that Alessandro’s PlayStation Vita unboxing skipped over, it’s the six cards that comes inclusive with all Vita consoles. To the uninformed eye, they’re nothing more than reject flash cards but they actually open the Vita up to some pretty novel and surprisingly cool augmented reality gaming.

Wide-area Augmented Reality (WAR) uses the cards and Vita’s built-in camera to create a dynamic playable environment out of the world around you. A great example of this is Table Football where the cards can be laid out on any sort of table and you effectively have an intermediary between FIFA and fooseball.

Microsoft’s Flight Simulator has been on the way for a long time now and is perhaps overdue to be grounded so that a sleeker, shinier and faster model can take to the skies. Well, it’s finally happening. Microsoft Flight will be out for Windows PC’s this autumn, but your wallets are safe because the game will be absolutely free of charge. It’s crazy, but let’s not frog march a gift horse to the dentist or anything just yet.

The new game will pick up where the old one left off with highly detailed and ultra-realistic controls that will please any hardcore fly-boys while also making itself more accessible for rookies.

Downloading the game gives you unrestricted flight around Big Island, Hawaii. Sign in with your Games for Windows Live account and you get bonus content such as extra missions, a Boeing Stearman plane and access to Achievements. After the game releases, Microsoft will start offering paid additional content such as new aircraft and areas.

EA has whipped up a new trailer for the re-imagining of the classic RTS Syndicate. The trailer focuses on the various arms you’ll have at your disposal in the game. There will be 19 guns with 87 attachments and 25 upgrades. That’s enough by my standards.

The trailer gives you a perfect look at close-quarters and ranged combat.

It may be nothing like the original but this game sure is looking fantastic.

There’s a new trailer out for Ninja Theory’s Devil May Cry reboot titled DmC and it shows lots of the to be expected hacking, acrobatics and high-intensity combos. It also shows a fair amount of ways in which the bizarro city reacts to bizarro Dante and the enemies he’ll be going up against.

I still have no idea what to make of this game but it’s out on PS3 and Xbox 360 next year so we’ll just have to see.

It’s probably not the biggest revolution in gaming and very likely not a great idea but someone figured it would be intelligent to combine urinals with gaming to get a game that is controlled by your golden liquid waste.

It’s a wacky concept to say the least but how it works is that there are three targets on the urinal – left, right and centre. There’s a screen above the urinal with a game on it and to play the game you aim your stream on either of the 3 targets to move the little character on-screen.

Why couldn’t Nintendo think of this before they decided to name their console?

Did anyone else notice a game which seems to feature nude women? I really don’t want to know what goes down in that game.

Nintendo felt that the best way to promote Mario Kart 7 for the 3DS was to have life-sized fully-functional Mario go-karts made and then show them off at the L.A .Car Show. There was of course only one company up to the task: West Coast Customs of Pimp My Ride fame.

Nintendo put in an order for two karts to be made and then it was on like Donkey Kong although it would have been really awesome if WCC had mounted a 3DS where the instrument cluster should be. Throw some Xzibit in and it’s the perfect way to showcase Mario Kart 7.

Life is pretty good if you’re Lionel Messi, even if you’re surrounded by cheats and homosexuals at the club you play for. That said, it’s gotta hurt when you want to play FIFA (a personal favourite of Messi’s) and see the ugly mug of Wayne Rooney staring back at you year after year. There’s also Kaka on the cover but he’s barely even in football anymore. Then Messi got replaced by arch-rival Cristiano Ronaldo as the coverstar for PES 2012 and all future PES titles. That’s got to hurt.

Suffice to say, the gnome has stepped up to do something about all of this. Lionel Messi is now “the global face of the EA SPORTS FIFA franchise.”

“The biggest transfer deal this football season sees the FIFA Ballon d’Or 2010 winner transfer to EA SPORTS and make his debut in March, 2012 on the cover of FIFA Street,” the publisher proudly states in its announcement.

The partnership deal puts Messi in as an official EA Sports Football Ambassador. He will also become “the cornerstone” of marketing and advertising campaigns, featured on packaging, and utilized in social media activities around the world.

That’s got to be good for his morale-meter.

EA SPORTS will also join forces with the Leo Messi Foundation to support social, educational and health care related initiatives for children around the world.

Did we mention that FIFA 12 has been outselling PES 2012 by 25 to 1. That indicates some good fortune for The Diminutive Genius.

“Our FIFA franchise is the number one selling sports videogame franchise in the world, and Lionel Messi is the number one player in the world, so this agreement is a true partnership of superstars,” said Matt Bilbey, Vice President and GM of Football, EA SPORTS.

Messi’s first duty will be to appear on the cover of FIFA Street which is due out in March and has been looking pretty great of late. Ea Sports even released a special trailer to mark this occasion.

Yesterday we showed you the first trailer for Spec Ops: The Line in over a year but that wasn’t good enough for some people. No, they wanted to see gameplay.

Well, those wishes have been granted with not one but two gameplay trailers. Above is the story trailer in which you’ll hear the omnipresent voice of Nolan North but don’t fear because this game actually suits him.

Below you will find the action trailer which really speaks for itself. The game seems to have some Gears of War about it with that cinematic edge to it which is not a bad thing.

So Taiwanese news channel NMA likes to do little animated videos to accompany its reports. This report talks about Skyrim’s launch and bugs and despite the priceless accent, there’s not much wrong with that.

The animation itself is another beast entirely. It starts with a trio of Skyrim fans bashing copies of Modern warfare 3 with various kitchen implements and rivals Japanese game shows in terms of weirdness, it is just utterly crazy.

WTF, Taiwan?

Spec Ops: The Line promised so much back in 2009 and looked like it would be one to remember in 2010. Yeah, that’s not quite how things went down. The game has practically been MIA ever since its announcement and I had to trawl all the way back to January 2010 to find even the smallest scrap of news on it. There have since been murmurs here and there but, much like bin Laden, The Line has thankfully resurfaced although it’s looking a little better off than the Saudi engineer.

There’s a new trailer out showing a slightly revised direction for the game. First billed as “a provocative and gripping third-person modern military shooter,” The Line has taken on a slightly edgier survival tone if this trailer is any indication.

That said, the initial premise was never too bad either. It was a fairly typical third-person shooter except with a rather unique setting in the sand-swept ruins of Dubai and some very interesting subject matter that would really deal with the value of death and what it means to be a good soldier.

“With all of its grandeur and opulence, Dubai provides the perfect backdrop to play out Spec Ops: The Line’s deep and complex narrative. This bold endeavor harnesses 2K’s pedigree of creating fascinating stories, settings and worlds to create an aggressive narrative and environment that you won’t find in other games on the market,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K.

He went on to say: “Wartime narratives evoke emotion like few things else in our culture. Players will fight through this hostile environment in Spec Ops: The Line,creating a raw and unique video game experience.”

Spec Ops: the Line has now been set for an Autumn 2012 release which is curious considering that’s several months away. I really do hope this game can deliver what it promises and provide a fresh alternative to the likes of CoD and Battlefield.

Yes, the man who scares Superman, has BBM on his Blockia and was playing Duke Nukem Forever 2 years ago now features in a TV commercial for World of Warcraft.

As you might expect, the ad is very cheesy and strange but you’ll watch it anyway.

Cue an endless stream of Chuck Norris jokes.

Whether this is real or not is very questionable but it is exceptionally awesome and really cool to watch. Regardless, it will likely go down as the best assassination ever seen in Skyrim, for now.

It’s probably not humanly possible to have the skill and know-how required to pull this off with an arrow shot but hey, it’s still frickin’ awesome.

The question is, does this beat Cavie’s 1km arrow kill? Be sure to read his epic Skyrim review.

Yes, Batman: Arkham City has a big head mode and it is awesome.

It’s pretty easy to pull off but you need to be playing in new game + on normal or higher difficulty. It’s also easier if you do the cheat with the cryptographic sequencer out although this is not essential. You simply hold the four shoulder buttons (PS3) or the two trigger buttons (Xbox 360) and then proceed to rotate the analogue sticks in opposite directions for a few seconds. Boom! Big heads for everyone. Repeating this turns it off. When near enemies you can also rotate the right analogue twice to perform a taunt that causes all surrounding enemies to cower in fear.

The cheat works on all characters and skins, even in challenge maps and makes the game so much more hilarious and even kinda cute, in a dark and gritty way. It even makes the villains ham-fisted and big headed.

It makes you wonder though, what other cheats are there in this game? Also, what would Solomon Grundy, Penguin, Bane or Killer Croc look like with inflated heads?

So there’s a new epic movie out called Immortals and I saw one trailer and was like, “meh.” And then there’s this new epic game out called Skyrim which I saw a couple of trailers for and was like, “meh.”

Kidding, of course.

Anyway, some Godly individual has taken the trailer for Immortals and spliced it with visuals from Skyrim. The end result is mind-blasting. I’m still not interested in the movie though.

It’s been a rough few days for Saints Row: The Third. Things were looking so very promising and it might have been the perfect game but then catastrophe struck. First it was revealed that the PC version will require with an online pass despite Volition’s protestations to the draconian anti-piracy regime.

Then we learned that the PS3 version had done a Battlefield 3 and was missing content that was promised to PS3 owners.

So, let’s lighten the mood and put a smile on that face with the official launch trailer.

November 18, it wouldn’t hurt to pre-order.

Six weeks ago, we showed you the first video of the new webseries based in the Dragon Age universe that starred Felicia Day as Tallis, an Elven assassin of Qunari faith who sought to redeem herself for the mistakes of her past.

Entitled ‘Redemption’, the webseries was written by Day and featured six short parts, each with its own introduction of a character or story element and cliffhanger ending.

Being the Dragon Age uber fanboy that I am, I’ve been following the series closely since it released on the week of the Mark Of The Assassin DLC for Dragon Age II, which not-so-coincidentally featured Felicia Day portraying none other than Tallis herself.

Well? Did you enjoy it?

I certainly did. It had its moments and was an exercise in entertainment throughout. Not to mention that it stayed true to the Dragon Age universe, and explained a fair bit about the Qunari and their ways.

On such a low budget, you also can’t help but appreciate the intricate use of props and camera angles in this production, not to mention the excellent acting on display and the script-writing which is of a pretty satisfyingly entertaining level, without getting too cliched.

Have I convinced anyone, yet?

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations has barely been out a full day and we’ve already got a legendary parody video.

Inspired by the musical stylings of Ezio Auditore, the song is based on cringe-worthy ” Higher” by Creed (See what they did there?).

As parodies go, this guy put in a fair amount of effort, he even honed his assassin and parkour skills just for the video. If you’re reading this after watching the video, then yes, he totally should’ve head for the bushes.

Need for Speed: The Run has been looking better and better over the past few weeks and has certainly covered whatever ground it lost with that horrendous debut. Even that trailer that Michael Bay directed was pretty awesome.

Now that reviews are starting to come in for the game, it appears that it took the idea of capturing the feel of an action movie a bit too far because the game is apparently no longer than a feature-length film according to many critics.

Game Trailers intelligently said of the short-lived single-player campaign: “that may sound short but keep in mind that time doesn’t include cut-scenes, retries or menus.”

So, we add all that in and we’re at what, about 3.5 hours? Also, how can you not be factoring in menus, cut-scenes etc when it’s part of the game?

I’m not hating on Game Trailers here but I find that statement to be ridiculous. The Run has thus far received very mixed reviews. Look out for eGamer’s review of Need for Speed: The Run. Coming soon.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is out tomorrow and Ubisoft has decided that it would be prudent to release a trailer recapping the events of the series from the first game right up to the end of AC: Brotherhood.

It’s invaluable for those of you who have not yet played all the games (Seriously, why would you do yourself such a disservice?) and it’s just nice to watch for those of you who have.

With any luck, Revelations will go some way towards hacking at that mountain of unanswered questions and mysteries that have hung around the series since Assassin’s Creed 2. Is it just me or does this trailer give you the impression that Ubisoft recognises the problems with Desmond Miles as a character and will be using Revelations to try to make him more likable?

Skyrim’s out today and it doesn’t matter if I tell you that the game is openly racist, sexist and homophobic or that it gives little children cancer because you will buy it anyway. I’m glad we can agree on that.

Thus, me telling you about a tiny little bug is not going to mean a thing. Rest assured, Skyrim is not Oblivion 2.0. However, there is one particularly interesting bug that shouldn’t be as repeatable as it is.

We could just be witnessing one of the game’s awesome mini-features but notice how the swinging club of an enemy sends you hurtling comically off into the stratosphere. Of course, he could just be that strong.

Watch below to see how easily people have been able to repeat it though which makes you wonder whether it is a glitch after all.

Apparently, this glitch, or whatever you’d like to call it, doesn’t occur or is very hard to reproduce on the Xbox 360 version of Skyrim.  Therefore, if you have Skyrim for PS3 or PC, fire it up now and try this out. Report back to me with what intel you’ve gained.

Ubiosft has released a launch trailer for Assassin’s Creed: Revelations in lieu of its release next Tuesday for PS3 and Xbox 360.

The trailer is full of big story set-pieces and cranks your up anticipation way past 11. The stage is certainly set for one epic send-off for Ezio Auditore da Firenze.

Assassin’s Creed games have had some amazing historic backdrops over the years and Ubisoft has always done a fantastic job of not only recreating the city – whether it be Jerusalem, Venice or Rome – but also in bringing the city to life and recapturing the atmosphere that hung over the city at the time.

Constantinople is no different in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations. Check out the latest trailer as narrated from the perspective of the Ottoman Empire’s Prince Suleiman. Ubisoft certainly has a talent for crafting living, breathing environments.

Get a look at all the psychotic, awesome and wickedly fun ways you can bring the hurt in Saints Row: The Third in this weapons trailer. Besides being absolutely insane in every respect, Saints Row: The Third also has some awesome cameos such as Burt Reynolds as the mayor of Steelport. There’s really not much more for me to say.

There’s a new Skyrim trailer. It’s got sweeping themes, intrigue, awesomeness and a mixture of other intangible elements that cause it to do everything in its power to make you want Skyrim this very instant.

I’m going to shut up now so as not to disturb you while you drool over it.

Sometimes playing online can be tough, especially when you’re not having much fun as a result of dying every seven seconds. Kevin Butler would like to personally thank all of you who persevere and don’t give into the dark embrace of rage quitting.

It’s part of Sony and PlayStation’s ongoing YouTube campaign which thanks the average (PS3) gamer for their efforts. The last time we saw KB, he was astride a horse and Sony’s last ad is quite possibly the best advertisement ever.

The example in this particular ad is one gamer known as Legit_Btness who was too legit. He was too legit to quit. But then he was not legit. He was unlegit. But even that did not lead him to quit.

Personally, I never let the thought of rage quitting cross my mind but then I don’t game online all that much. What about you?

Did I mention that Kevin Butler totally busts a move by the end of the ad? It’s epic.

Lately, the headlines have been grabbed by Saints Row: The Third with its ridiculously awesome slew of revolutionary trailers. Not to be outdone, Modern Warfare 3 chimed in with its own ‘No Russian’ moment and just for good measure, there’s now a live-action trailer featuring the Sam ‘the Vet’ Worthington and Jonah ‘the No0b’ Hill.

Watch as Jonah transcends the slums of no0bdom into the pantheon of pro-ness. It’s not a bad effort from Activision and there’s even a 2 seconds cameo right at the end that makes you wonder whether there might be more of these in the not-too-distant future.

Here’s what you’ve all been waiting for. At long last, we can get a good look at what will be assaulting our eyes in the Devil May Cry HD Collection.

The HD Collection is being released to mark the 10th anniversary of the Devil May Cry series and comprises the first 2 games and Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening Special Edition as well as some new bonus content designed to appeal to both newcomers and old fans of the series.

At least the HD Collection gives us the real Dante and not the bizarro ‘Dante but not Dante’ crack-addict that Ninja Theory has cooked up for the series reboot.

To be honest, it doesn’t look as good as the God of War Collection but it’s still pretty awesome. Watch the video and judge for yourself.

The Devil May Cry HD Collection is slated for release in “early 2012″ on PS3 and Xbox 360 with a price-tag of $39.99 (R 315.59) although reports suggest a February 10 2012 release in Europe (and South Africa).

We’ve got two fine Assassin’s Creed: Revelations trailers for you today. Both of them focusing on the game’s multiplayer which builds on the excellent online multiplayer from AC: Brotherhood.

Unfortunately, neither trailer really has much or any of the awesome music that has made Assassin’s Creed: Revelations trailers particularly awesome over the past few months. It seemed essential to clear that up before the trailers disappointed people on that merit (or lack thereof) alone.

Rest assured, the videos make up for it in other ways. The first is a vignette fleshing out some of the premise that drives Revelations’s multiplayer. In Brotherhood we were just told that it was part of an Animus training program for Templars at Abstergo, but Dr Vidic goes a little further down the rabbit hole this time and it looks like even the multiplayer might have a compelling narrative.

The second is just a plain and simple trailer detailing the maps, weapons, abilities and modes available to players. There’s plenty of the obligatory stabbing and killing to be seen but it’s all done to some truly epic narration.

Saints Row: The Third has been killing us of late with the most awesome trailers anywhere, ever. Seriously, the combined power of the trailers over the last few weeks could end poverty and bring peace to the world. They manage to fix everyday problems ranging from being stuck in traffic to the correct way to play baseball and even the correct manner in which to pimp out a small economical urban vehicle.

Did I mention that Saints Row developer Volition Inc. trolled Modern Warfare, Battlefield and Halo epically in one fell swoop with this awesome trailer. Moving on, if you’re only now coming across Saints Row: The Third, please read our preview and be enlightened as to what you’ve been missing out on.

The latest trailer is all about the madness of the game and just how over-the-top bat-shit crazy everything is in the city of Steelport. You’ll see everything from superheroes to spacemen, gimps, pimps, atomic ATVs, farts in a jar, dildo bats, destroyer jets, zombies, reaper drones and tons more.

How do you cap off an insane trailer like this? With Burt Fucking (yes, that’s his Christian middle name) Reynolds as the Mayor of Steelport, of course.

There are not words in the English language to describe how awesome this game is or how ridiculously fun it looks.

Humblest apologies for the uneven quality of the video but it’s the only copy I could find.

Shh, try to keep your laughter to a minimum or you’ll wake the bitches!

Okay, so Halloween was several days ago and Microsoft did something a little unique to mark the occasion. They made Kinect intimidating and scary.

Long used as the butt of many a joke, Kinect strikes back in this horror parody as an instrument of torture and murder. It draws quite clearly from Saw and involves some very cheesy moments (look away, if you’re lactose intolerant).

However, the Kinect stuff is pretty cool and I have to say it’s good use of the motion control system. The moral of the story here is, I think, avoid Kinect at all costs if you value your life and sanity. Top notch marketing there Microsoft.

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations is a mere fortnight away and it will almost certainly be an awesome experience to cap off Ezio’s escapades. What’s even better though is that players will be reunited with the guy who started it all, Altair ibn La-Ahad – the original Assassin’s Creed protagonist. Altair was a killer assassin who just oozed swagger. The question now though is, “What happens when you throw Assassin’s Creed into a modern-day society?”

It’s a pretty valid question considering where the series is heading with Desmond and so the Dutch branch of Ubisoft decided to find out. What they did was put together a series of promo videos showing how Altair grapples with contemporary transport, target practice, weaponry and outfits and the fact that no one just happens to be carrying throwing knives around in their pockets anymore.

Basically, what you end up with is not so much confident, uber-cool swagger  as it is creepy stalker/freak/paedo weirdness. You’ve got to love the Dutchies and their sense of humour and whatever it is that they’re smoking.

Well, in theory you should get something pretty amazing but that’s not how reality works. It’s even worse in the gaming industry because the standard and fairly logical formula of [Awesome Thing A] x [Awesome Thing B] = Awesome² does not prove true for all values of A or B.

Why the Maths lesson? Well, I have to write 4 Maths papers on 4 consecutive school days and decided that someone should share my pain but it’s also a roundabout way of introducing today’s shameless intellectual property cloning.

There’s a new free-to-download game called Cut the Birds available on Apple’s App Store for iPad and iPhone and by watching the above video of it, you might just feel the strong tug of deja vu. You’ll also question the integrity of the App Store’s approval process.

Now, that sounds like an unholy amalgamation of iOS heavyweights Cut the Rope and Angry Birds and funny enough, you’d be dead on the money for thinking so. Not only does it steal the names but it also combines the games somewhat and steals Angry Birds’ visual style completely.

The third in this unholy trifecta of itheft is Fruit Ninja from which Cut the Birds manages to steal the gameplay without blinking an eye.

So, to summarise: name from Cut the Rope/Angry Birds, visuals from Angry Birds, gameplay from Fruit Ninja. It’s actually starting to sound pretty decent.

The only thing keeping me from raging all over the developers of Cut the Birds is that the game is free so they’re not profiting from their little copy-paste escapade.

Sadly, I couldn’t find Cut the Birds on the SA App Store (I blame Telkom. Why? Because it is the root of all evil).
