I know that this is not really related to gaming, but it is an important question.

I am so sick of all the ads on TV, Radio and the Internet with “feel it, it is here” and “be able to say: I was there”. Even if I didn’t go to the match I’d still be able to say “I was there” because I live in South Africa. 

So have you got your tickets to the 2010 Soccer World Cup – and to which matches? Yeah, I stood in a queue to get mine and my conquest was successful.

A few people are. There are some that live by this. On the weekend I saw parts of Role Model — don’t ask — and this kid was really into his role-play game called LAIRE.

It was a game where you fight with swords. The game had something to do with the medieval times.

Anyway, enough about that. We’re wondering have you ever tried to do a live role-play-like-thing for games. A game where you actually live in the game, or something.

For a gaming center you’d probably like something large and obtrusive, however if you’re someone that likes to brag a bit, something faster might be better. Perhaps you’re into a speedy Coupe which has front mounted screens and a console?

Maybe you want a big-ass wagon with big-ass screens and lots of sound?

What about the legendary crowbar, or Pringles can — in some cases, from Half Life?

Yeah, it’s cool and all to play as or meet characters inside the game world, but what about here, in the real world? You know, normal ordinary life, where we want something exciting to happen, and lots of fun constantly.

Yeah, it’s a different kind of question, but a serious one. Since everything has come out of the closet and homosexuality is promoted practically everywhere – this is very evident in movies and TV series these days – we’re wondering if and when it will reach the gaming industry and start being included in games.

Personally, I don’t want it to. People go on way too much and it becomes irritating and too exposed. But it’s not just my opinion, we’re asking for yours too! Would you be alright with it if games started including homosexual themes in them?

Basically, what do you think on the whole matter?

You’re gonna have to think back quite a bit here. What game from back in the day would you like to see remade on the current generation consoles. It can as far back as the old Ataris and NES or as recent as PS2. I would love to see a remake of one of a game that I played some years back on PC.

It was a 2D side-scroller called Captain Claw featuring cat-person pirates and dog-people as their enemies. It was a simple 64-bit game but had pretty everything in its story to make it rival Uncharted: the supernatural, an item of value and a rugged protagonist. From what I remember, the gameplay was rather good and it was actually quite fun. Remastered in 3 dimensions and with effort, it could be a great game.

So,what game would you like to see remade?

I remember Fifa ’98, and I’ll always link Blur – Song 2 to that game. Song 2 is that Woo hoo song, which is pretty catchy. It used to play in the menu all the time, and it always made me delay the game to listen before I played a 4 minute battle.

How about you? When you hear a specific song — which game do you think about?

Pretty simple question tonight. What is your favourite game of all time. What game did you really love or do you really remember. What game would you choose over all the others that you have played. It can even be a series, so long as it is not Modern Warfare or Star Wars. If it is, well I can’t really do much about that; legally, anyway.

Personally, I have a certain attraction to Assassins Creed 1, it may have been the fact that I got to slaughter innocent Jews or just the whole feeling and experience it gave but I will always remember that game and have played it many, many times. It is just so full of character and enjoyment. It is like nothing less I have ever played, except maybe Assassins Creed 2. So anyway, what’s your favourite?

After Tiger decided that one woman wasn’t enough, a few things escalated causing chaos. Many shunned the golfer, while others gave a discreet high-five.

EA Sports decided to stay neutral, and disregard all negative energy towards the golfer.

How do you feel that this will change sales?

Perhaps many more would buy the game, as it’s has been a big publicity stunt, or maybe sales will stay the same as golfers want to play golf games. This happens to be the only golf game.

Following this, do golfers have enough moral — or balls — to say, ‘No, I ain’t buying this game, yo.’

After revealing unreleased footage of Duke Nukem Forever, it got us thinking: Would you play the game at this point in time? After all the hype for many years? Let’s face it, Duke Nukem is one of the most memorable shooters ever made — back in the 90′s.

I feel that I’d have to play the game to experience it, however, there’s a strong feeling that it might kill all previous enjoyment and excitement.

Back in the day when I was jamming the 8bit Nintendo, we used to clock games. Now for those of you who don’t know what clock or clocked means:

Clocked: To completely smash a video game. Meaning you get perfect scores and without losing a single life.

Have you ever clocked a game? Being quite rubbish games (Ed: Amen), it’s hard to think of a game that I’ve totally demolished. Then I remembered why I haven’t… I always used the Konami kode.

Often we ponder the rather shallow questions of: what is the meaning of life? Why am I here? What’s for lunch (this is actually a really deep question if the answer is KFC)? Tonight Today we’re gonna take you on a spiritual soul-searching psycho-analysing journey with the really deep question of: If you were a game, what game would you be?

Woah there, don’t rush into it! You don’t wanna get your brain prematurely tired. First we have to explain this one so that it makes absolute sense.

First: you are not just the game disc or box but the actual game on the disk. So don’t just pick one that girls are gonna constantly fondle and caress.

Secondly: You feel everything that the player does ie. if they do something right or cool, you get happy. If they screw up, you get sad. You also receive any insults that the player may hurl at the game.

Thirdly: the in game content has no effect on you. It could be an erotic game or Scribblenauts and it would make no difference. Ultimately it comes down to how the player responds to the things happening in the game and how ell they play it.

Personally, I would be… God of War. It’s so easy my 3yr old cousin can play it and it is oh so rewarding that by the end of the game, the player will literally be praising it. Also, nobody ever gets frustrated with GoW, it is the ultimate stress killer. I might take a nap for the sex mini-game though, don’t wanna be awake when some people play that.

On a side note, the ninja among you will all choose the same game, but do you know which game it is?

We decided to go with a simple-ish question this time around, because sometimes the simplest solution is often the correct one. I have no idea how that is relevant to Question of the Day, but I’m sure that there is some small connection there somewhere.

At the moment, I’m playing Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (PC), Modern Warfare 2 (PS3), Final Fantasy XIII (PS3) and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories (PS2). :D

I mean, Fat Bob even locked himself up in the bathroom in a wild attempt to get away from my questioning. At least, that’s why I think he locked himself up in there.

There are many things in life that you find yourself somehow knowing, but don’t quite remember how you came to know of it. I mean, there are just some things you know, right? It seems to enter your brain while growing up, but you just can’t figure out where or how you know it. And no, we’re not factoring in memory loss here, we’re talking about the power of the world and the way your brain takes in this power.

Actually, we’re just talking about games. Today’s Question of the Day is: What Game Did You Grow Up Knowing, But Don’t Know How You Learned Of It? Now, the easy candidate would be Nintendo’s world renowned plumber, Mario, I mean, I don’t even know where that guy came from. However, I did encounter him by playing some of the original Mario games.

If I have to say, I would that Street Fighter would be my choice. You know, one day you wake up and just shout “Shoryuken!” and realise that you have no clue how you came to know of that word. Or something like that.

It’s Friday today, as you might have guessed, and everyone here at the legendary-yet-suspiciously-shady eGamer office are slacking off. I, Tody, got the short straw and was kicked out of relaxing time to do some work. I call racism, but somewhat suspiciously no one believes me. Anyway, let’s address today’s question. Naturally, since games are such an important part of our lives, (you know, as gamers) we can expect them to spark some changes within us and our ways of thinking, speaking and even our actions. Depends on the person, indeed, but the concept remains the same for each person.

So today’s Question Of The Day is: Has Gaming Affected You In Real Life? Tell us how, no matter how big or small, it has affected you and what you do, say or think as a result. For example, I have often called people noobs, despite the fact that some of them, in actuality, have no idea what I’m calling them. I’ve also seen crosshairs appear when I’m holding weapons of mass destruction and I’ve seen the circle button appear above people’s heads who I wanted to attack – although this could just be because of too much exposure to God of War.

Alright, I’m kidding about the crosshair and circle button things there :D But you get my point!

Valve says that Steam on Mac is one of the most important events from the company, and they are super excited about it. I feel that by bringing Steam to Mac the company is pretty much opening a brand new dimension for gaming, and gamers.

Before this games were very limited on the Mac and you often had to run some other kind of software or OS to even open the games.

Personally I feel that it’s a brilliant step forward, and it might make a Mac slightly more useful for a gamer. How about you?

….Nothing that involves driving. Woman can’t drive — ’nuff said.

My mother would probably play some cooking game, because she belongs in the kitchen — even though her cooking ain’t so good yo.

Probably something on the Wii — like bowling. Wii games are easy for parents to play because it involves more movement than brain power…

We’re way late with today’s question! Anyway, to be as to the point as possible, there are games we hate. Regarding series’ and franchises, there are sequels and there are seeeeeeeequels. The former is what we, as humans, know sequels to be. The latter, however, is the endless repetition of games with the same names that eventually results in you raging at the very sight of said games.

In a less spastic explanation, today’s Question of the Day is: Which Game Do You Never Want To See Or Hear About Again? For any reason, really, I mean, it could be because said game endlessly produces sequels, or because you simply hated said game in every way imaginable.

For me it would probably be Need 4 Speed, for obvious reasons (yes, I know Shift was good), Prince of Persia 4 and Grand Theft Auto IV.

I realise that the phrasing of the question is a little odd to say the least, but then again so is the question. Having recently been exploding my eyeballs and brain with tons of God of War III footage, in anticipation for the game, and watching Kratos brutality murder everything in his path, I’ve began thinking about the powers of the mind, so to speak.

So today’s Question Of The Day is: Have You Ever Imagined That The Weaklings You Destroy Are Real People? Essentially, when you’re playing God of War, Call of Duty, Battlefield, Gears of War – any game that has you murder lots and lots of noobs, have you ever imagined that the enemies and weaklings you were killing were people you’d want to do those things to in real life?

For instance, let’s say, while ripping a weakling’s arm off and stabbing his face with it in God of War, have you ever pictured that enemy to be someone you want to beat the living hell out of and simply revel in that sadistic thought? Mentally replacing the enemy with an image of your “real life target” and smiling evilly to yourself?

So, have you? It’s alright, what’s said on eGamer stays on eGamer – or something like that? :O The truth will set you free!

*Special Note: The intention here is not to promote violence, but to get the truth from our fellow gamers to an innocent yet oddly random question. Violence is bad, stay away from it at all times! Unless it’s in a game of course, or a movie, or, yeah, something not real.

We have seen a rise in super hero games or rather good super hero games. With the release of Batman: Arkham Asylum and the success that it garnered, the question is what super hero are they going to do next? (That question is not for you). What our question for you is, what super hero would you like to see re-created in a good game (maybe on par with Batman Arkham Asylum)?

I would probably like to see a really good spider-man game or an awesome Captain America game. Or how about they re-enact the whole Marvel Civil War? Would be beyond awesome if done properly. Anyways let us know who you want to see in a decently created game.

Move is pretty dull. It’s boring, and really simple. Overall it is an effective name, but surely they could have spiced it up a bit.

What name would you have wanted?

I like the Thunder Rod. This just screams power.

Anyway, let’s just hope that they don’t ruin gaming with exclusive Move-only titles.. Right?

Which is more fun? Most games now days on console are coming out as a 3rd person shooter, or with 3rd person shooter functionality where PC games are still sticking to the whole first person set up.

Just remember, which is more fun — not which is better for competition!

For some of the younger folk out there, do you obey the age restriction of games? Many don’t, and personally I don’t see a problem with this as long as you’ve been brought up with good standards and morals.

I actually tend too feel that those who were not able to experience higher age restriction things land up breaking and misleading trust in attempts to do so anyway.

So, do you obey the gaming age restriction, and what does it really mean to you?

This question definitely has its ups and downs, however, just remember it’s not exactly possible to drive and play. Nope, you can’t even play in traffic because you’ll be required to keep focus and move.

If you don’t move at the correct times in traffic, people like me rage — really badly.

In-car gaming equipment will be fun for passengers and backseat drivers, but do you really want them to have a good time while you’re sitting with the chore of driving? Not really fair if you ask me.

So unless you’re playing when you park you car — unlikely — when would you ever use it? Is it a viable asset, and finally — would you do it?

I sure as hell wouldn’t.

Ignore the fact that would probably be stolen out your car after the first time you park it, even in a secured parking.

Most old people don’t game, however there are quite a few which are really into it. There are many that have started gaming even though they never played when they were small, as they never had the opportunity.

Now, I’m wondering, when you do think you’ll stop gaming? When you’re married because the +1 says no, or how about when you have children?

If you stop when you have children, wouldn’t you like to play with them and not just watch? Perhaps you’d lay low until they get good and then you beat them, horribly.. Making them cry and run to their mothers.

Me? I’ll stop gaming when I sleep. When I wake up, I’ll continue.

When I get too busy to even live, I’ll stop gaming. So for me there’s no time frame, it just depends how busy I am.

Personally, I don’t really care. As long as it doesn’t ruin the story line, or the game as a whole.

Ok so the day somehow managed to elude me. It’s now Tuesday night which I guess kinda makes this question of the night. Now I don’t mind being the office this late, as I’m a bit of a creature of the night. Now I’m not one who is afraid of the dark but it does help that our office is well lit. Why am I talking about the night? Well this is when most of my gaming is done of course. These days it consists of 2am drunk dota with Emo Nik, Cheeezy and Nitrate on a Friday or whining in an instagib with some asian or again Nitrate on Quakelive. Where am I going with this? Well before dota became my mistress I did play other games. One night a mate and myself decide to play some PS1 Resident Evil. At Night. With the lights out (Ed: This sounds like the beginning of a Mills and Boon?) and the sound up. Well… I forget what colour my underpants were at the start of that day, but after that night they were brown.

Yeah I flat out brownstriped my pants every time some crazy mofo would pop and and attack me. Seriously for a kiddie back then that game was epic scary. We played until the sun came up until we got stuck some where and decided breakfast > resident evil. While I have to say the likes of Doom 3 and such were up there with the scariest, playing Resident Evil 1 till down has still got to be one of the “scariest” gaming experiences I’ve ever had.

Today’s Question of the Day is one of the most important questions that you, as a gamer, could ever ask yourself in your lifetime.* Why, you might ask? Well, because fundamentally we all know that the pink ball with eyes, arms and shoes known as Kirby is a legendary and iconic creature in the gaming world. Wait, why am I telling you this? You cannot be a gamer or, to take it a step further, a human being, if you do not know who Kirby is. Basically, if you really have no clue (shame on you!), Kirby is a creature who features in the Kirby games (duh!) and has the power to, well, swallow enemies and gain their powers. He can also fire them out as a projectile if he doesn’t swallow them, and he can do this with objects (such as bricks and bombs) as well. Also, he can fly, believe it or not, by sucking in lots of air to inflate himself (to keep afloat) and propelling his little arms. As you can see, he is quite lethal and monstrous. Don’t let his looks fool you, he is evil.

So today’s Question of the Day is: If you were Kirby what/who would you swallow? Since you have the option of swallowing humans, creatures, food, bricks and anything that Kirby is able to swallow, we want to know what or who you will swallow, if you were Kirby.

Personally, I’d swallow Kratos from God of War, and become the Kirby of War with blades of chaos! Or, realistically speaking, I’d swallow a rocket and fire it out, just to be cool.

Counter Strike, Quake, Doom, Battlefield, Gears of War, Prototype or Sims, Worms, DotA, StarCraft (ONE), Diablo, etc?

Would you rather be running around shooting faces, or RTS’ing with your mouse.. And stuffs?

For the sake of this question, StarCraft 2 & Diablo III do not count, as everyone will just answer with that.

I’m more of a FPS kinda guy, but I’ll enjoy a slow paced strategy where I can hurt my opponents head.

For competitive play, I’d definitely take something fast paced with loads of action.

Earlier today Quincy Sharp showed us the Top 12 Dress Up Party Idea’s, and it got me thinking: Have you ever dressed up like a game character?

I’m going to be honest, and don’t act surprised.

I’ve never done this. I guess it’s my lack of wardrobe though. I don’t think there are any game characters that hang around in their undies all day.. Are there?

Due to a combination of watching the rather awesome movie Avatar (in 3D) and taking a rather peculiar liking to the rather awesome Assassin’s Creed series, my brain has begun thinking more over the concept of virtual reality and what it would be like to do something like that in our world. You could possibly be thinking, “Why so serious deep, Tody?” Well, I’m glad you asked that. In fact I’m not and you probably didn’t ask that. But to answer your unasked question, well, I just think it would be cool to actually enter a virtual game world by inhabiting the body of a character, almost as if you were living two lives.

So, tonight’s today’s Question of the Day is: If You Could Be Transported Inside A Virtual Representation Of A Game World, Which Game Would It Be? We want to know which game world would you enter, and what “body” would you take control over. For example, you might think to enter the World of Warcraft universe, inhabiting the body of a Troll Priest. Keep in mind that if this other self of yours dies, it’s game over, but not for you, because you will still be alive, only your other self (avatar) will die. But you will see and feel everything your avatar does, as though you are actually him/her. Also note that when inhabiting this body, you gain access to all his/her abilities (e.g Troll Priest spells and weaponry) and you’re free to traverse the game world as you see fit and do as you please.

Personally, I’m not quite sure. So many options! Maybe I’d get into the shoes of Ezio from Assassin’s Creed 2, or Commander Shepard from Mass Effect! Or even a soldier in Killzone 2 or Gears of War 2, to kill some noobs!

No I haven’t gone barking mad. Although as I write this piece, my editor is giving me the beady eye. Yes I too have succumbed  to the madness that is Starcraft II. Having been a huge fan of the first Starcraft, I spent many hours with my forces backed into a corner defending waves and waves of AI or battling random people on the interwebz (known as the Internet back then). And of course no LAN was complete without the 6 hour Mexican stand-off of battle cruisers against carries.

What got me thinking about Starcraft II, the 2009 winner of the vapourware award? Wait… let me lift that rock you’ve been living under. THE STARCRAFT BETA INVITES WERE SENT OUT DUMMY! Wait what you didn’t sign up? Idiot. Well I did sign up, but unfortunately our friends @ blizzard don’t think Fatbob is a worthy beta tester. So as a consolation prize, I’ve been you tubing reviews. While waiting of course  for that little red bar to buffer, I started wondering what it would be like if the future turned out to be something like Starcraft.

Let’s say I pull a Phillip J Fry and land myself in a cryogenic chamber one day while delivering pizzas. And it just so happens they set the date to Feb 20, 2610. Would I want to be a marine with the life expectancy of 8 seconds? Or perhaps a hydralisk related to the fungus growing under Nitrate’s bed? And who wouldn’t want to be zealot (Ed: pronounced Zeeeeeelot boo) and give out some psy blades to the face?

I walked into the eGamer office today and was immediately shouted at for never having done a Question of The Day, it’s apparently like the sink-or-swim initiation here at eGamer. Due to Continental Drift, Global Warming and a guy named Owen; QOTD has become QOTN for you guys while it is still daytime here in the eGamer office. Strange times we live in, eh? Anyway, tonight’s today’s question is rather simple: If you could have any gadget in any game, what would it be? Bear in mind that KFC does not count as an all-in-one ultimate weapon.

Me personally, I would want a rabid penguin shooting cannon that doubles as a Portal Gun and a huge Swiss-Army Knife. I know that Fatbob would want a copy of Men’sHealth no matter what game he was in, since that’s like his Bible. Anyway what do you, the masses have to say? Oh, and yes this is part of placing certain ideas in your heads so that we may one day control you all Mwahahahahaha!

Let’s be serious. We all sit in our undies and play games eating cereal all day. There’s not outside world, there’s nothing called in-real-life.

So, which game should be a cereal? What would you like to crunch on all day?

Me? I want little Forza cars to eat! Imagine getting a daily dose of Ferrari in the morning.. Pure awesome!

I took the liberty of shouting Fatbob yesterday for making a serious Question of the Day that, in fact, wasn’t so serious, yet he claimed that it was serious, but it wasn’t serious, which meant that the seriousness of his supposed serious QOTD was a lie, because it was not serious, just seriously curious. See? Moving on, I will agree with the editorial, Fatbob does get some rather, um, interesting ideas, most probably inspired by his Men’s Health magazines that he so enthusiastically reads and brags about.

Today, or rather tonight, our Question of the Day is the following: If you could make a game, what type of game would it be and what would your concept be? That’s right. We want to know what type of game you’ll make, whether it be action, sports, racing, strategy, role playing etc, and what concept would you base your game around. For instance, you may think to make an action game, one like God of War, that focuses on mutated penguins wielding french bread rolls and bubble guns fighting it out with enraged monster bears in a post apocalyptic South Africa. It’s your game, your world. Let us know, but we want a bit of detail here, just so we can know what’s going on in that mentally deranged mind you gamers possess! Or maybe that’s just me.

Personally, I’d want to make a serious stealth game, a slightly futuristic one, that is built purely on stealth. A game with tons of cool gadgets, ultra realistic sniping sequences, a deep variety that calls for experimentation and planning (with traps, set ups, gadgets etc), silenced weapons and, of course, invisibility devices and intense escape sequences – after your infiltration plan succeeds! A true stealth game, one to keep you on the edge of your seat as you play ever so cautiously and sneakily.

It’s been a busy day here @ the eGamer offices as we’re locked away working on a top secret project. How top secret you ask? Well so top secret I don’t think any of us know what it is. It’s been an interesting day for those of you with feelers out in the ADSL and Connectivity market. A day that most thought would revolutionise the ADSL market has well… let’s just say it hasn’t quite done so.

But yes today the folk over at Web Africa announced their new pricing structure now that it’s a tier 1 ISP. The bad news is that it’s not exactly the “Aggressive Pricing” we’d all heard so much about. Why do I care? Well I’m a gamer and gaming eats my bandwidth. Of course downloads, surfing and pr0n eat my bandwidth too, but I’m not going to get into that.

I’ve been a long time WA subscriber and one stage good ol’ eGamer was hosted with them (Ed: You’re not going to rant about that again are you?) and I really thought they were tip top. After some hosting issues and today’s announcement WA has made both me and my wallet very sad. Yes WA if I continue to buy my international bandwidth from you next month, I will save about R5. Yes a whole R5. After I’ve paid Sally for services rendered, what on earth am I going to do with R4.90 change?

Anyway before this turns into the 500 post rant that’s currently going on at MyBB, I figured it would be interesting to see what the folk around the office use for their interwebz fix:
